A remake of the classic 1992 movie The Bodyguard is reportedly in the works. Now, the pop star Taylor Swift is being floated to possibly play the leading role in the new version.
Swift Gets Pitched To Star In The Bodyguard Remake
The original movie The Bodyguard famously starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Last Friday, it was reported that a remake is in development, with Sam Wrench set to direct it. Wrench famously directed the 2023 Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour concert movie.
This is perhaps what made Swift top of mind for the supermodel Tyra Banks when she discussed The Bodyguard remake while guest hosting Today with Jenna & Friends this week.
“I’m so beyond excited. That movie is everything,” Banks, 51, told Jenna Bush Hager of the remake.
When asked who she’d like to see play the role that was originated by Houston, Banks replied, “I think Taylor Swift, ’cause business and commerce, art — she would freakin’ sell like crazy. But, okay, I’m just gonna be real, I’m a Black girl, it was Whitney Houston as a Black girl, Kevin Costner as a White man. What if we flipped it and it was Taylor Swift and Idris Elba? Hot!”
Banks went on to explain that she is currently trying to make a movie with Elba, 52.
“We’re like WhatsApp friends right now,” Banks continued. “I’m like, ‘Are you down?’ he’s like, ‘Yeah, Banks.’ I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna make this happen.’ I feel like we should do, like, the romance thing.”
“Why don’t you be in The Bodyguard?” questioned Bush Hager, 43.
Banks, however, wasn’t having any of that.
“Hell no,” she replied. “We need somebody that can really sing!”
We can’t argue with Banks on that one!

The Bodyguard
Houston starred in the original The Bodyguard as Rachel Marron, a singer whose life is turned upside down when she’s targeted by a deadly stalker. This results in her begrudgingly hiring the former Secret Service agent Frank Farmer (Costner) to be her bodyguard.
Houston sadly died in 2012 at the age of 48 after drowning in a bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hotel. When Costner turned 70 back in January, he took to his Instagram Story to post a photo of himself with Houston on the set of The Bodyguard.
“This photo reminds me of how lucky I am to be getting another birthday,” Costner captioned the post. “We lost such a light when we lost Whitney.”
The chemistry that Houston and Costner shared onscreen was nothing short of palpable. It will certainly be hard to recreate that in a remake!

Swift And Houston Have A Lot In Common
Swift has yet to comment on The Bodyguard remake. However, she’s long been open about being a huge fan of Houston’s.
“I was a huge fan of Whitney,” Swift told E News after Houston passed away. “And I was also a fan of her spirit. She was always smiling and I just always felt like she was relatable.”
Swift and Houston also have quite a lot in common. Indeed, they are two of the most successful female artists in music history. Houston has sold over 200 million records sold worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Meanwhile, Swift is one of the best-selling music artists of the 21st century. She’s also the highest-grossing touring artist.
There will likely be many female singers vying to play the role that Houston immortalized in The Bodyguard over 30 years ago. Only time will tell if it ultimately goes to Swift!
