The final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is set to air on Thursday, May 22. The very next day, Stephen Colbert’s time slot will be taken over by Byron Allen and his show Comics Unleashed.

‘We Don’t Talk Politics’

In a new interview, Allen is pledging to avoid politics on his program. This is in stark contrast to Colbert, who ended up costing CBS $40 million a year after he turned his late night talk show into a hyper-political leftwing propaganda machine.

“What I’m doing with Comics Unleashed, we don’t talk about politics. We don’t talk about anything that’s topical,” Allen, 65, told CNN’s Michael Smerconish. “We don’t do anything that’s racist or sexist or antisemitic or homophobic. Just be funny and don’t offend.”

Smerconish responded by questioning if viewers would be looking for political leanings after so many years of that time slot being occupied by the far-left Colbert.

“A lot of eyes are going to be on your program to see, well, what are the political leanings? What can they read into it?”  Smerconish asked.

Allen, however, was not having any of it. He explained that his goal is for his show to follow the example of Norman Lear, who believed that comedy should be used to bring people together rather than divide them. Allen wants to reach all viewers, regardless of who they voted for.

“I don’t care who you vote for. I don’t care,” Allen insisted. “I’m here to make people laugh. You’re going to vote who you’re going to vote for, no matter what I say. It doesn’t matter. It’s not my business, do what you do. I’m here to make you laugh.”

How refreshing is that?!

Colbert’s Show Canceled

This could not be more different from Colbert’s approach. After taking over The Late Show from David Letterman in 2015, Colbert wasted no time in politicizing the talk show. Indeed, Colbert regularly used his opening monologues to bash President Donald Trump and lecture the American people on how they should vote.

Needless to say, this alienated a large portion of Colbert’s viewers. While The Late Show had once been a program that Americans of all political affiliations could come together and enjoy, Colbert turned it into something that was only watchable for the most liberal of liberals.

Last summer, CBS announced that it would be canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert after the current season. While Colbert and his fellow leftists have tried to claim that this was a political decision, CBS has argued that it is purely financial. The network revealed that it was losing $40-50 million a year on Colbert’s show, and CBS simply could no longer afford to do that.

“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount,” CBS said in a statement after announcing Colbert’s cancelation in July of 2025.

Allen Replacing Colbert

CBS announced last month that it will be replacing The Late Show with Comics Unleashed. It will air in Colbert’s old time slot Monday-Friday with back-to-back half-hour episodes beginning May 22. Allen’s game show Funny You Should Ask will follow.

“I created and launched Comics Unleashed 20 years ago so my fellow comedians could have a platform to do what we all love — make people laugh,” Allen, founder, chairman and CEO of Allen Media Group, told The Hollywood Reporter. “I truly appreciate CBS’ confidence in me by picking up our two-hour comedy block of Comics Unleashed and Funny You Should Ask, because the world can never have enough laughter.”

We applaud CBS for finally getting rid of Colbert. He is a liberal elitist who played a huge role in ruining late night, and he has no business being on television anymore. There was a time when late night was something that all Americans could enjoy, regardless of their political affiliations. These days, however, it consists of lectures from smug wealthy liberals like Colbert, who has no idea what the average American wants or needs.

We also commend Allen for pledging to avoid politics on his show. Unlike Colbert’s talk show, perhaps Comics Unleashed is something that people will actually watch!
