It’s been six weeks since Nancy Guthrie, the 84 year-old mother of the TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie, went missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Afterwards, false allegations were made that Savannah’s brother-in-law Tommaso Cioni might somehow be connected to Nancy’s alleged kidnapping.
Thankfully, Tommaso was soon cleared of any involvement. Nevertheless, a cloud of suspicion still hung over both him and Savannah’s older sister Annie in the early days of this investigation.
Now, the former Fox News host Megyn Kelly is speaking out to allege that Savannah is “livid” about these early claims against her brother-in-law. In fact, Savannah is reportedly so mad that she might be preparing to take legal action against a fellow journalist who spread these baseless allegations.
Savannah ‘Livid’ About Claims Against Her Family
It was allegedly the journalist Ashleigh Banfield who first made the claims against Tommaso. According to Megyn, this enraged Savannah. It was especially frustrating since the Pima County Sheriff’s Department had already publicly cleared the family of having any involvement in Nancy’s disappearance.
“I have not been able to confirm that the Guthrie family wants to sue Ashleigh Banfield. But I have confirmed that Savannah is livid about that report and definitely does not suspect her or her brother-in-law,” Megyn said on her SiriusXM podcast.
“Can you blame her?” Megyn continued. “I mean, of course, she loves her sister. I’m sure she loves her brother-in-law, and I’m sure she genuinely doesn’t believe they had anything to do with it.”
Nancy’s Kidnapping
Tommaso and his wife Annie Guthrie had been the last two people to see Annie before she disappeared. They had dinner with her on January 31, the night before she went missing. They then dropped her off at her home afterwards. Sadly, Nancy has not been seen since. It is believed that she was kidnapped in the early hours of February 1.
A masked intruder was captured on Nancy’s doorbell ring camera just before she was taken. He managed to cover it with some plants before moving forward with the kidnapping. It has since been revealed that the masked man had been seen in the doorbell ring camera prior to the night Nancy was taken. This indicates that he may have been casing out her home.
Days later, Ashleigh claimed on live television that a single law enforcement source had told her that Tommaso was possibly being eyed as a suspect. She continued to double down on this allegation against Tommaso even after Tucson Sheriff Chris Nanos insisted that the family had no involvement in the case.
Sheriff Blasts Ashleigh
The Sheriff slammed Ashleigh for her reporting. He said that it’s “really kind of reckless to report that someone is a suspect when they could very well be a victim.”
“To the media, I plead with you to be careful of what it is we put out there. Because we don’t have anybody here listed as a suspect. And you could actually be doing some damage to the case. You can do some damage to that individual too,” Nanos added. “Social media is kind of an ugly world sometimes.”
Earlier this month, Savannah returned to New York City for the first time since her mother went missing. She is determined to return to her job at the TODAY show, although it’s unclear when exactly that will happen.
Savannah is still offering a $1 million reward for information that leads to the return of her mother.
Please join us in saying a prayer for the safe return of Nancy Guthrie.
