Meghan Markle’s estranged father Thomas is reportedly “trapped” in his apartment on the 19th floor of a building in the Philippines after a massive earthquake rocked the nation on Tuesday.
Thomas ‘Trapped’ After Earthquake
On September 30, a 6.9-magnatude earthquake struck the Philippines. In the wake of this tragedy, Meghan’s half-sister Samantha took to social media to allege that their father Thomas is “trapped” in his apartment.
“My father is stuck on the 19th floor of a building in the Philippines after a massive earthquake,” Samantha wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “And he can’t walk and he is trapped.”
“Shame on my disgusting evil [expletive] sister forever putting our father in this position,” she continued. “I hope she is cursed.”
This earthquake, which struck the central province of Cebu, was the worst to hit the Philippines in over a decade. As of this writing, the earthquake has left at least 60 people dead.
On Wednesday morning, Samantha returned to social media to give the public an update on her father.
“I wish to extend our deep gratitude to everyone expressing concern about my father,” she wrote on X. “As of today he is OK, and making plans to get out of that building.”
“They seem to be safe for now, and hopefully there will be no serious aftershocks,” Samantha added. “Provisions are being made so that he won’t be trapped in a similar situation again.”
Thomas Seeks ‘Fresh Start’ In The Philippines
Thomas, 81, revealed earlier this year that he was moving to the Philippines from Mexico, where he had lived for many years. He previously explained in January that he was doing this in the hopes of getting a “fresh start” after the “awful drama of recent years.”
“I am ready for a change,” he Daily Mail at the time. “I have felt stuck in a rut for some time and I am ready to meet new people and experience kindness.”
Thomas has been estranged from Meghan, 44, ever since just before her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, 41. Despite repeated pleas from Thomas, he has never met his grandchildren Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, who Meghan shares with Harry.
Meghan has maintained her estrangement from Thomas despite the various health issues he’s battled in recent years. Indeed, he has reportedly had two heart attacks and a stroke. Thomas has also been seen using a walking stick to get around. Despite this, Meghan appears to have shown no interest in reconciling with her estranged father in any way.
Samantha Blasts Meghan
Meanwhile, Samantha, 60, has long been critical of Meghan for the way she has treated their father.
“She doesn’t have a heart, or she would have been doing everything she could to make him comfortable and reciprocate and be loving and gracious and make sure he’s comfortable in his old age,” Samantha said of Meghan in a 2019 documentary. “So, broken heart? No, his heart’s broken. She can’t turn herself into the victim here.”
