Roseanne Barr is speaking out this week to reveal why she felt “betrayed” by her former Roseanne co-star John Goodman.
Barr Feels ‘Betrayed’ By Goodman
During the latest episode of “The Roseanne Barr Podcast,”ย Barr talked to Michael Malice about Goodman’s decision to scale back his appearances on the show in the later seasons.
When asked if this left her feeling “betrayed,” Barr admitted that it very much did.
“I don’t think I heard it from his agent, I think I heard it from the producers of the show actually [that] he doesn’t want to be on the show anymore,” said Barr, 73. “I think they said he’ll do six of the 24 or something like that.”
Despite her feelings of betrayal, Barr still kept things “professional” between herself and Goodman, 73.
“None of them supported me in any of the [expletive] I went through the first show and I just had to sweep it aside and do the show. Always,” she continued. “I kind of learned to not speak to anybody on the set when we were filming in a one-to-one personal thing. I was always the character. When we went to work, I was always the character. That’s even when I’d break to go get a cup of coffee, I was still the character.”
The History Of Roseanne
Roseanne aired on ABC from 1988 until 1997. It is widely regarded as one of the most influential sitcoms of all time. During its run, it won Barr both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award.
Roseanne was rebooted in 2018. Sadly, that same year, ABC canceled this Roseanne reboot. This came after Barr posted a tweet about Barack Obama’s former advisor Valerie Jarrett that many felt was racist in nature.
ABC then brought back Roseanne as the new show The Conners with all the cast members from the reboot except for Barr, brutally killing off her character in the process. That show ran until the spring of 2025. Barr has since confirmed that she no longer speaks to her former co-stars.
“No, I’m not friends with none of them,” Barr said. “They’re all in the past. I have pleasant memories of what fun we had โ wish them all the best. And no, we don’t talk. I’ve moved on from that horrendous ending and chapter of my life, but you know, I don’t hold any bitterness or nothing to them, but my God, what fun we had on that show.”
“And I was sorry they [expletive] it all up with their greed and ridiculous stupidity to [expletive] all that up,” she concluded. “[Expletive] them, but I wish them well.”
Goodman Responds
As for Goodman, he admitted to The Hollywood Reporter in 2025 that he hasn’t spoken to Barr “for about seven or eight years.”
“Iโd rather doubt if she wants to talk to me,” Goodman said of Barr.
It’s safe to say that that’s a correct assumption, Goodman!
It continues to be unfortunate that Barr found herself to be a victim of cancel culture. Despite what happened to her, nothing will ever change how brilliant Roseanne really was.
God bless you, Roseanne Barr!
