Earlier this month, we reported that Prince Harry had met with his father King Charles in person for the first time in 19 months. Indeed, the pair enjoyed a “private tea” in London for around 55 minutes on Wednesday, September 10.
This led many to speculate that a royal reconciliation might be on the horizon for Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. Unfortunately for those who were hoping that this was the case, however, it now appears that this won’t be happening after all. Instead, insiders are claiming that the King has dropped on a bomb on Harry that is sure to have sent his youngest son’s head spinning.
Harry Gets Bad News
Sources are alleging that despite his recent meeting with his father, Harry will never be a part-time royal.
“The King is a forgiving man but has been absolutely clear in upholding his late mother’s decision that there cannot be ‘half-in, half-out’ members of the working royal family,” a royal source told Daily Mail.
The insider went on to slam sources who alleged that Harry’s four-day trip to the United Kingdom this month might be a new working model for him. These sources suggested that under this potential model, Harry would get to carry out some royal duties while also still being based in California with Meghan and their two young children, Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4.
According to the royal insider, however, this could not be further from the truth.
“Whoever is behind [the Sussexes] seems to have mistaken a brief tea and a slice of cake for the Treaty of Versailles,” the insider explained.
“These syrupy briefings from supposed Sussex sources are precisely why the King and Royal family are so hesitant to embark on any road to rapprochement,” added another royal source. “If the intention is to encourage a rebuilding of trust and relationships, they serve the precise opposite effect.”
This insider went on to say that President Donald Trump’s visit to the U.K. was not only a show of strength for the King, but also for Harry’s older brother Prince William, who is the heir to the throne.
“As last week’s State Visit clearly demonstrated, the power and impact of the modern monarchy lies in the unshakeable bond between The King and the Prince of Wales, supported by other working members of the family,” the source stated.
Harry Fires Back
A spokesperson for Harry has since fired back with a brief but blistering statement.
“The Duke has made it clear that the focus, as it relates to his family, is his father,” the spokesperson told Page Six. “Beyond that, and on any other issues as it relating to the Royal family, we won’t be commenting.”
That last sentence is rich, coming from Harry’s camp. Indeed, this comes after he’s spent five years bashing the royal family seemingly every chance he’s gotten.
Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in January of 2020. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where Meghan was born and raised.
In the years since then, Harry and Meghan have been airing the royal family’s dirty laundry in books, interviews, and docuseries. Many would argue that it’s no wonder that the royals no longer have any trust in them.
While it would be nice to see Harry reconcile with his family, we can certainly see why the King and his fellow royals would be wary of him. Only time will tell if Harry will ever end up back in the royal fold, but it’s not looking good for him!
