The family of Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty fame has made the sad announcement that the patriarch is in the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s disease.
Phil Alzheimer’s Diagnosis
“Phil’s not doing well. I think I spoke on the 1000th podcast. We were trying to figure out the diagnosis, but according to the doctors, they are sure that he has some sort of blood disease causing all kinds of problems,” Phil’s son Jase Robertson said on the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast last Friday.
Jase, 55, went on to say that the disease has “accelerated, and it’s causing problems with his entire body.”
“And he has early stages of Alzheimer’s,” Jase continued. “So, if you put those things together, he’s just not doing well. He’s really struggling.”
Phil, 78, and his wife Miss Kay, 76, are parents to Jase as well as sons Al, Jep, and Willie. Phil also has a daughter named Phylis.
Jase also said that despite Phil’s situation, he’s eager to return to work on the podcast.
“I’m like, ‘Well Phil, you can barely walk around without crying out in pain, and your memory is not what it once was,'” Jase said. “He’s like, ‘Tell me about it.’ So he is literally unable to — I think he would agree — to just sit down and have a conversation.”
“We’re trying to do a lot of things to figure out how to make him more comfortable and maybe help with his memory,” he continued. “We’ve got a team of doctors and then we have another set of doctors who are looking at all the test and they’re all in agreement that there’s no curing what he has. And so you know, what do you do? We’re trying to make him a little more comfortable.”

The Blind
Last year came the release of the movie The Blind. This film chronicled Phil’s past struggles with addiction and anger before converting to Christianity. Check out a trailer for The Blind below.
The Blind was incredibly popular with fans, even changing many lives.
“One woman said her husband had been an alcoholic for 17 years, he never goes to the movies with her,” Korie Robertson, who is married to Phil’s son Willie, told The Christian Post. “She convinced him to come to the movie with her because he loved Phil and our show. He reached over and held her hand for the first time in years while they were watching the movie. I read that and just bawled.”
Please join us in saying a prayer for Phil as he begins his battle with Alzheimer’s.
