Patrick Muldoon, who was best known for starring on Days of Our Lives and Melrose Place, died suddenly on Sunday, April 19. He was 57 years-old.
Muldoon Dead At 57
Muldoon’s death was confirmed to Variety by his manager. His cause of death was a heart attack.
Muldoon’s sister told TMZ that Muldoon was found unconscious in the shower by his girlfriend at his home in Beverly Hills, California. He had only just gone to take a shower after having coffee with her in the morning. Paramedics rushed to the house, but sadly, they were unable to revive him.
Muldoon had last posted to Instagram just two days before his death. In the post, he expressed his excitement about an upcoming project.
“So excited to be a part of this amazing project KOCKROACH directed by Matt Ross starring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Edgerton, Zazzie Beetz And Alec Baldwin. Filming now in Australia 🇦🇺,” Muldoon wrote alongside a photo of a Deadline article announcing news of the film. He then added the hashtag “#producer” in his caption.

Muldoon’s History
Born in San Pedro, California, Muldoon rose to fame playing Austin Reed on the soap opera Days of Our Lives from 1992 until t995. He later reprised the role in 2011 after a 16 year hiatus.
After exiting the soap opera, Muldoon portrayed the villainous Richard Hart on the primetime soap opera Melrose Place for three seasons starting in 1996. One year later, in 1997, Muldoon starred as Zander Barcalow in the cult classic movie Starship Troopers alongside Denise Richards and Casper Van Dien.
Muldoon’s last movie Dirty Hands is set to be released next month. Richards, 55, starred in this movie with him as well, as did Michael Bleach. Muldoon and Richards actually dated in the 1990s. Though their relationship didn’t work out, they remained close friends. In March of 2025, Richards wrote in an Instagram post that she and Muldoon were “besties.”
Tributes For Muldoon
At the time of this writing, Richards has yet to break her silence about Muldoon’s death. However, tributes are pouring in from other former co-stars of his.
“This is such heartbreaking news,” Alison Sweeney, who played Samantha Brady on Days of Our Lives, wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Pat was a rare kind of person—brilliantly talented, endlessly kind, and generous in spirit.”
“I was so lucky to have worked with him when I first started at Days,” added Sweeney, 49. “He made me feel at ease right away. He brought his unique charm and humor to work every day. A truly gifted guy, and one who will be profoundly missed.”
Lisa Rinna, who played Muldoon’s onscreen sister Billie Reed on Days of Our Lives, took to her Instagram Story to share a throwback photo of the two of them together. She included a heartbreak emoji over it.
Muldoon is survived by his girlfriend, Miriam Rothbart. He is also survived by his parents, sister, one niece, and one nephew.
Muldoon was a truly beloved figure in Hollywood, and there will never be another one like him. Rest in peace, Patrick Muldoon.
