It’s been three years since the country music legend Naomi Judd tragically took her own life at the age of 76. The icon is still dearly missed by millions of fans to this day.

Now, Judd’s widower Larry Strickland is speaking out to shockingly reveal that Judd once shot a gun at him after learning that he’d cheated on her.

Judd Learns Strickland Cheated On Her

Last weekend, The Judd Family: Truth Be Told aired on Lifetime. It was in this special that Strickland, 79, revealed Judd’s reaction to learning that he’d cheated on her years ago.

The docuseries featured a voiceover from Judd’s 1993 memoir Love Can Build a Bridge. In it, Judd said that while she and Strickland were “wildly, madly, passionately in love,” her husband was also never home.

Judd went on to recount how a woman from the Northeast called their home in Nashville in the 1980s. On this phone call, the woman gushed over how much “she loved and missed” Strickland. Indeed, it quickly became clear that Strickland had cheated on Judd with this woman.

When Strickland finally got home, Judd recalled that she tore up photos of the two of them. She then threw Strickland’s belongings in a trash bag that she proceeded to throw in their yard.

At one point in the docuseries, Strickland watched an intense scene from the 1995 television movie Love Can Build a Bridge. The scene features Kathleen York, who portrayed Judd, shooting Bruce Greenwood, who played Strickland, after finding out that he cheated.

After watching the scene, Strickland confirmed that it actually happened in real life.

“Well, it really happened,” he said. “That’s all I can say. That’s all I’m gonna say. It happened.”

Clearly, Judd was one woman who was not to be messed with!

Judd’s Final Years With Strickland

Judd and Strickland met in 1979. They married a decade later in 1989. Despite this cheating incident, they remained married for the next 33 years until her death on April 30, 2022. In December of that year, Strickland opened up about how he cared for his wife as she struggled with depression in her final years.

“For the past 13 years or more, I was with her 24/7,” Strickland told People Magazine at the time. “I never left the house without Naomi knowing where I was going and when I would be back. As far as taking care of myself, I’m not sure that fits my situation. When you have a mate that has a mental illness, you walk that path with them.”

Strickland also talked about Judd’s final months in this interview.

“It was a very chaotic, hectic, hectic time,” Strickland admitted. “It was extremely hard. She had several therapists that she was seeing, and her energy level had gotten really low. She was getting really weak.”

“Nobody can understand it unless you’ve been there,” he continued. “Think of your very worst day of your whole life – someone passed away, you lost your job, you found out you were being betrayed, that your child had a rare disease – you can take all of those at once and put them together and that’s what depression feels like.”

Watch Strickland talk more about this in the video below.
