The country music star Carrie Underwood was publicly attacked by the General Hospital Nancy Lee Grahn last week. This came as Underwood made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Friday night.
Grahn Slams Underwood
On January 23, Underwood made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show. She was joined by her fellow American Idol judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Prior to their appearance, Grahn announced on social media that she would be boycotting the show because of Underwood.
“See ya next week @jimmykimmel,” Grahn, 69, wrote on Threads. “I refuse to even look at @carrieunderwood.”
Grahn is reportedly extremely outspoken on social media about her radically liberal political views. Her boycott of Kimmel’s show on Friday seemingly stems from Underwood performing at the second inauguration of President Donald Trump back in January of 2025.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration. And to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood, 42, told People Magazine at the time. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Kathy Griffin Weighs In
The radically liberal comedian Kathy Griffin took to the comments section of Grahn’s post to support her boycott of Kimmel’s interview with Underwood.
“Yeah, no love for maga Carrie. It’s not just about political disagreements,” wrote Griffin, 65. “Boycott Underwood, wherever & whenever. Sorry Jimmy.”
Grahn later took to the comments section of her own post to backtrack a bit. She did so by saying that her intention was never to “slam” Kimmel, who is also known for his far-left views.
“Truth matters,” Grahn wrote alongside an article claiming that she was “slamming” Kimmel, 58. “I LOVE Jimmy Kimmel & watch him every night, I would never ‘slam’ him.”
“I simply said I would watch him next week because I didn’t want to look at Carrie Underwood (for obvious reasons) who was his guest that night,” Grahn added. “Come on, guys, I’m not worth the clickbait.”
Underwood Avoids Politics
Despite the backlash that she has received from Grahn, Griffin, and other radical liberals, Underwood has always tried to stay away from politics. Indeed, back in 2019, Underwood told The Guardian that she avoids publicly commenting on politics because nothing is ever that “black and white.”
“I try to stay far out of politics if possible. At least in public, because nobody wins,” Underwood said at the time. “It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
“Immediately, people said, ‘Oh, you have a song about gun control!’ It was more about the lives that were changed by something terrible happening,” she continued. “And it does kind of bug me when people take a song, or take something I said, and try to pigeonhole or force me to pick a side or something. It’s a discussion — a long discussion.”
It’s sad that a singer like Underwood can’t even sing at the inauguration of a president these days without receiving backlash from closed-minded leftists. Performing at the inauguration of an American president should be seen as an honor, regardless of politics.
God bless Underwood for sticking to her guns and rising above this liberal nonsense!
