In April of last year, we reported that the country music star Morgan Wallen had been arrested and hit with multiple felony charges after he allegedly threw a chair from a rooftop bar in Nashville. The chair landed right by multiple police officers, nearly hitting them.

Now, Wallen is addressing this arrest in a new song, admitting that he is his “own worst enemy.”

Wallen Addresses His Arrest

Wallen, 31, took Instagram on Monday to release a portion of his new song titled “Superman,” dedicated to his 4 year-old son Indigo.

“Been trying for a long time to write a song I loved to my son. None of them ever feel good enough because of how perfect I want something like this to be,” Wallen wrote in the caption. “And not saying this is perfect, but I am very proud of it. Here is a clip, it’s called ‘Superman.’”

Wallen clearly referenced his arrest in the song. He also compared his struggles to those of Superman himself.

“One day you’re gonna see my mugshot/From a night when I got a little too drunk,” Wallen sings. “Hear a song about a girl I lost/From the times that I just wouldn’t grow up/And when you ain’t a kid no more/I hope you don’t think less of me/I try to hide my falling short/But you’re gonna see.”

Wallen went on to compare “that bottle,” meaning his own issues with alcohol, to Superman’s kryptonite. Indeed, “that bottle” can bring “a man of steel down to his knees,” according to Wallen’s new song.

“Don’t always know my wrongs from right/Sometimes I’m my own worst enemy,” he sings. “No I don’t always save the day/But you know for you I’ll alway try/I do the best I can/But Superman [is] still just a man sometimes.”

Wallen’s Arrest

Wallen was left humiliated after his April arrest at the opening of the Chief’s Bar in Nashville. At the time, a source told People Magazine that Wallen had not been expected at the bar opening that night. The insider added that Wallen had not been there long when he suddenly threw the chair from the rooftop.

“Morgan is generally a nice, fun person to hang out with, but when he gets going he doesn’t know when to stop,” the source lamented. “Morgan and alcohol is a problem and it’s been a problem that keeps coming back around.”

In December, he was sentenced to one week at a DUI education center. He was also sentenced to two years of probation, one for each of the reckless endangerment misdemeanor charges that he was hit with. Should Wallen complete the terms of his probation with no issue, he will be eligible to have the charges dismissed and expunged from his record.

Wallen’s Attorney Speaks Out

“Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved,” Wallen’s lawyer Worrick Robinson IV said at the time.

“Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation,” he added.

We continue to be extremely grateful that nobody was injured in this incident. Here’s hoping that Wallen can use this as motivation to turn his life around!
