The Oscar-winning Hollywood star Morgan Freeman is speaking out to admit that after decades of working in the entertainment industry, his interest in acting has “dimmed a little.”
Freeman Still Acting At 88
While promoting his new movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, Freeman was asked directly if he’s still interested in acting.
“I will concede that it’s dimmed a little,” Freeman, 88, confessed to The Guardian. “But not enough to make a serious difference.”
Though he isn’t quite as interested in acting as he was in his younger days, Freeman still isn’t considering retirement.
“Sometimes the idea of retirement would float past me. But, as soon as my agent says there’s a job or somebody wants you or they’ve made an offer, the whole thing just boils back into where it was yesterday,” Freeman explained. “How much you’re going to pay, where we’re gonna be?”
Freeman’s History
Freeman made his big screen debut over sixty years ago in the 1964 movie The Pawnbroker. He has since accumulated over 151 film and television credits, according to his IMDB page. At the time of this writing, Freeman has at least two projects that are in pre-production.
Some of Freeman’s most famous movies include Driving Miss Daisy, Se7en, The Dark Knight and The Shawshank Redemption. He’s been nominated for five Oscars, winning once for the 2004 Clint Eastwood movie Million Dollar Baby.
“If you do something that’s well received and it lasts years, people talk about the fact that you were in that, so it feels nice,” Freeman said of his most popular movies.
When asked if he’s best known by fans for The Shawshank Redemption, Freeman replied with a laugh, “Heavens, yes.”
“It’s like I was not ever in anything else,” he added.

Last month, Freeman was asked by AARP why he keeps working at such an advanced age.
“There is a saying about old age — ‘Keep moving’ — and what Clint Eastwood, 95, says: ‘Don’t let the old man in,'” Freeman replied.
“The way to do that is to keep getting up in the morning, keep working out in the gym, keep taking your vitamins, keep taking your prescribed meds, and keep moving,” he continued. “Keep moving. That is the secret to it all.”
Freeman’s One Goal Each Day
While appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show last month, Freeman admitted that his one goal each day is just to “get up.”
“What’s something you have to do, like every day?” asked host Jennifer Hudson, 44.
Without hesitating, Freeman deadpanned a response that shows just how humble he really is.
“Get up,” he said with a laugh.
“You better tell it!” Hudson exclaimed in response.
“I’m 88, darling,” Freeman continued. Hudson chimed back in to call this “a blessing.”

Freeman is a true living legend, and there will never be another one like him. Though he’s certainly earned the right to rest on his laurels if he wants to, we’re glad that Freeman isn’t ready to give up acting completely just yet.
God bless you, Morgan Freeman!
