The Miss Universe world is in mourning after former contestant Kseniya Alexandrova died last week. This came one month after she was in a tragic freak accident involving an elk. The former beauty queen was only 30 years-old.

Alexandrova Killed In Freak Accident

Alexandrova, who was Miss Russia in 2017, had spent weeks in a coma with severe brain injuries after an elk smashed through the windshield of her luxury $100,000 Porsche on July 5. She was a passenger in the Porsche, which was being driven by her husband of just four months.

Alexandrova and her husband, whose name has not been released, were driving in Tver Oblast, Russia when an elk suddenly jumped out in front of their vehicle. The husband said afterwards that he didn’t even have time to swerve to avoid the massive animal before it hit their Porsche.

“From the moment it jumped out to the impact, a split second passed. I didn’t have time to do anything,” the husband said.

“The elk flew into the car,” he continued. “The blow hit Ksyusha in the head. She was unconscious, her head was broken, everything was covered in blood.”

Alexandrova’s husband went on to say that they were driving slowly and each wearing seatbelts when the incident occurred. However, because their Porsche has a low front, it collided with the elk’s leg. This resulted in the airbags failing to deploy.

Alexandrova Was Hit ‘In The Head’ By The Elk

The elk reportedly “hit Ksenia in the head,” according to her husband.

‘She was unconscious, her head was smashed, everything was covered in blood,” he recalled. “The worst thing is that the frontal bones of the skull were broken. It was clear that there was an open head injury.”

Alexandrova was rushed to a hospital in Rzhev before being transported to Moscow for surgery. The former beauty queen briefly regained consciousness at Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine.

“At first, they did not do a second operation,” her husband said. “She could not speak because she was on a ventilator, but she was absolutely conscious.”

Doctors later went through with a second operation. Though they initially thought it was a success, Alexandrova’s then “suddenly plunged back into a coma.”

The devastated husband also revealed that his wife had been making some progress in the weeks that she was in a coma. Sadly, she ultimately wasn’t able to make it.

“Meningitis was diagnosed, which turned into more severe inflammatory brain diseases. The tests began to deteriorate, it came to blood sepsis,” Alexandrova’s husband concluded. “Once they were able to start the heart… But the next day Ksenia died – it was not possible to restart the heart.”

Miss Universe Honors Alexandrova

Alexandrova was best known for representing Russia at the 2017 Miss Universe pageant. This competition was won by South Africa’s Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, who has since gone on to marry the former NFL star Tim Tebow.

The Miss Universe pageant took to Instagram to pay tribute to Alexandrova two days after her death was announced.

“The Miss Universe Organization extends its deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and everyone whose life was touched by the light of Miss Universe Russia 2017, Kseniya Alexandrova,” the statement read.

“Her grace, beauty, and spirit left an unforgettable mark on the Miss Universe family and beyond,” it continued. “May her memory continue to inspire kindness, strength, and love in all those who were fortunate enough to know her.”

‘Never Give Up On Your Dreams…’

Meanwhile, the Miss Universe Organization issued this statement alongside a video of Alexandrova competing in their pageant. It included audio from her interviews during the competition.

“I want all people around the world to believe in themselves and to always have a dream,” Alexandrova said in Russian, with English subtitles translating her words. “We should be strong and [believe] in ourselves and never give up on our dreams. In this world everything is possible, and nothing is impossible.”

Indeed, this serves as a reminder of just how fragile life really is. Please join us in saying a prayer for Alexandrova’s husband and her other loved ones during this tragic time.

Rest in peace, Kseniya Alexandrova.
