Mel Gibson and his longtime partner Rosalind Ross have officially separated after nine years together.
Gibson And Ross Split
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” Gibson, 69, and Ross, 35, told People Magazine.
Gibson and Ross went on to reveal that they quietly split about a year ago. They are adamant that they will continue to co-parent their 8-year-old son Lars.
Gibson and Ross met through mutual friends back in 2014, and they soon started dating. They welcomed their son Lars in 2017. His birth came days before Gibson was nominated for a Best Director Academy Award for Hacksaw Ridge.
“What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son,” Gibson said at the time.
A source added at the time, “They’re thrilled and Lars is adorable. Their family is all around them and Mel is over the moon. They’re home and everybody is healthy and happy!”
“Mel loves being a dad and he and Rose can’t wait to be parents together,” another insider stated. “The last two years have been some of his happiest years he’s ever had.”
Gibson Did ‘A Lot Of Work’ On Himself
After the birth of Lars, Gibson confesses that he had “a lot of work on myself.”
“I’ve done a lot of work on myself these last 10 years,” the Braveheart star said. “I’ve deliberately kept a low profile. I didn’t want to just do the celebrity rehab thing for two weeks, declare myself cured and then screw up again.”
“I think the best way somebody can show they’re sorry is to fix themselves and that’s what I’ve been doing and I’m just happy to be here,” Gibson continued. “He who tries, gets. If you try, you get somewhere.”
When asked if he’d learned from his mistakes, Gibson replied, “I’ve learned a lot of things, like phone etiquette … how to use my ‘indoor voice’ … and if you’re going to drink, don’t talk. Have a designated talker. Nobody has ever said to a drunk person, ‘That’s a brilliant thought! You need to share that with the world!'”
Gibson is the father of nine children. Indeed, he shares daughter Hannah and six adult sons, Christian, Edward, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas, with ex-wife Robyn Moore. He was married to Moore from 1980 until they divorced in 2011. Gibson is additionally the father of a 16-year-old daughter Lucia, who he shares with songwriter and pianist Oksana Grigorieva.
Gibson And Ross Lose Their Home
In January of this year, Gibson and Ross lost their home in Malibu to the California wildfires. Gibson was out of town working at the time, and his family was safely evacuated.
“The good news is that those in my family and those I love are all well, and we’re all happy and healthy and out of harm’s way, that’s all I can care about, really,” Gibson said on January 9.
This comes as Gibson is currently busy working on The Resurrection of the Christ. This is the sequel to his 2004 biblical drama The Passion of the Christ. The new movie is set to be released in two parts. The first is set to debut in theaters on Good Friday, which falls on March 26, 2027.
This has clearly been a very difficult year for both Gibson and Ross. Please join us in saying a prayer for them both as they navigate this new chapter of their lives.
