The Hollywood star Sydney Sweeney broke the internet on Wednesday night when she wore a dress that appeared to be see-through to Variety’s Power of Women event. The next day, Sweeney found herself being raked over the coals for this by the former Fox News host Megyn Kelly.
Kelly Sounds Off
Kelly, 54, began her rant by saying that she is a big fan of Sweeney, 28. She particularly liked Sweeney’s American Eagle ad that triggered woke liberals everywhere earlier this year.
That being said, Kelly was deeply disturbed by Sweeney’s choice of dress to this event. Indeed, Kelly did not like that it left nothing to the imagination.
“So she was on the red carpet last night and she decided to show off her number one asset, which, contrary to the American Eagle jeans ad, is not really her jeans, it’s her enormous breasts, which are spectacular,” Kelly said. “No one would take that away from her. But, controversial opinion, I object to this. I disapprove of the dress she wore because it’s completely see through. You can see her entire nipples.”
“She reminded me of Kim Kardashian who overshares and then takes away the thing that is the sexiest, which is every guy’s hoping to be the one who actually sees them for real, and leaving a little to the imagination,” Kelly continued. “Now, I know this is being universally celebrated online, but I have to say, even though [I am] Sydney Sweeney fan, love the jeans campaign. I thought, ‘This is a rare misstep’… Draw the line at areola!”
Not stopping there, Kelly openly wondered if Sweeney was “misled” into wearing the revealing dress after she “trusted the wrong person.” Kelly concluded by acknowledging that the outfit choice won’t hurt Sweeney’s career in the slightest. Instead, it will only bother people like Kelly, who have mostly become Sweeney fans fairly recently.

Sweeney Talks Female Empowerment
Sweeney shocked everyone when she showed up to this Los Angeles event braless wearing only the Christian Cowan x Elias Matso crystal dress. She paired the look with minimal silver jewelry and subdued makeup.
Unfazed by any potential backlash, Sweeney used this event to talk about female empowerment. This is especially relevant to her after her latest role playing professional boxer Christy Martin in the new movie Christy.
“I know what it feels like to be underestimated—to have people define you before you’ve had a chance to define yourself,” Sweeney said during the ceremony. “I know what it feels like to have to prove that you deserve to be here.”
“Christy reminds us all that strength doesn’t have to look loud sometimes, sometimes it’s just about getting back up again and again no matter who’s watching,” she added.
Sweeney Loves Fashion
Aside from acting, fashion is Sweeney’s other main passion in life.
“Fashion is a really fun way of embracing different sides of yourself,” Sweeney previously explained to People Magazine. “Some days, I might feel very girly, some days, I might feel edgy. Others, I might feel like I want to be more laid-back. It’s a way of being able to express those different sides of how I feel or who I am.”
It’s safe to say that Sweeney certainly explored a different side of herself with this see-through dress! Only time will tell if this comes back to bite her at all.
While we can certainly see the positives of the dress, perhaps Sweeney will take Kelly’s advice and leave some things to the imagination next time!
