Last week, we reported that Meghan Markle is returning to acting for the first time since she married Prince Harry back in 2018. This came as a surprise to many, as Meghan had long said that she was “done” with acting forever.
Unfortunately for Meghan, however, her Hollywood comeback is already backfiring on her. Indeed, royal experts are speaking out to warn that this will not end well for Meghan.
Meghan’s Hollywood Comeback
Meghan is reportedly playing herself in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends. The movie also stars Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Lily Collins. An insider confirmed to People Magazine that Meghan “has a small part” in the film.
British royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News that this is nothing more than a “vanity project” for Meghan, 44.
“She has to make a pragmatic pivot given the rock-bottom position she’s in, polling-wise,” Fordwich warned. “Hollywood hasn’t embraced her, and it’s highly doubtful U.K. audiences or the royal family will care about this latest move. They’re probably more relieved that she’s not overtly bashing them.”
Royal expert Kinsey Schofield, host of the YouTube show “Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered,” spoke out to that she believes the palace is making their disapproval known behind closed doors.
“While Prince William was in Brazil celebrating the Earthshot Prize, reports surfaced that Meghan Markle had been spotted on the set of a new film,” Schofield said. “Meghan drawing headlines away from Prince William’s high-profile event will not go unnoticed by the palace. The pattern of Harry and Meghan retreating from the spotlight for months, only to reemerge during William’s major moments, is something his team is acutely aware of.”
“The timing of the announcement has raised eyebrows beyond the palace,” she continued. “This overlap has prompted speculation about whether the movie leak was coincidental or a calculated attempt to distract from negative headlines. The only way this cameo will work for Meghan is if the movie is successful, and she presents herself in a self-deprecating manner, showing she can laugh at her own image and reputation.”
Meghan’s ‘Massive Moment’
This comes after a studio source claimed that Meghan’s role in this movie is a positive step forward for her.
“This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves,” the studio insider told The Sun of Meghan’s return to acting. “She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.”
“It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set,” the source added. “Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement. Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
Meghan Was ‘Done’ With Acting
News of Meghan’s acting return has come as a shock to the public, given how adamant she has been about leaving the profession behind for good.
In 2022, Meghan was specifically asked by Variety if she would even consider returning to acting.
“I’m done,” she fired back. “I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
Meghan made similar comments after announcing her engagement to Harry in 2017. At the time, it appeared clear that Meghan had no intention of ever acting again.
“I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change,” Meghan told People at the time. “It’s a new chapter. Right? And also keep in mind I’ve been working on my show for seven years. So, we’re very very fortunate to be able to have that sort of longevity on a series.”
“And, for me, once we hit the 100-episode marker, I thought, ‘You know what, I have ticked this box, and I feel really proud of the work I’ve done there. And now it’s time to, as you said, work as a team with you,'” she added.
Meghan Doubles Down
Meghan went on to double down by indicating that her acting days were very much behind her.
“I think what’s been really exciting as we talk about the transition out of my career and into my role is the causes that are really important to me that I can focus even more energy on,” she concluded. “Very early out of the gate, I think you realize you have access or a voice that people are willing to listen, and with that comes a lot of responsibility, which I take seriously.”
In the nearly six years since Meghan returned to California from the United Kingdom, her popularity has plummeted on both sides of the Atlantic. Only time will tell if Meghan’s Hollywood comeback earns her more favor with the public, or if it sinks her forever in the court of public opinion!
