Last month, we reported that the former Malcolm In The Middle star Frankie Muniz had announced that he is becoming a full-time NASCAR driver. Now, Muniz is opening up about the “black and white” reason why life as a race-car driver is better than being a Hollywood star.

Muniz Has No Regrets About Ditching Hollywood For NASCAR

Muniz was just 14 years-old when he became a household name after Malcolm In The Middle premiered back in 2000. After the show wrapped, Muniz took a hiatus from acting to focus on professional race car driving – he’s been behind the wheel for a long time. Now 38 years-old, Muniz has no regrets about this decision.

“As an actor, like, I’ve been fortunate to do a lot of great things and people tell me, ‘I love your show, or I love this or love that,’ but, you know, it’s all based on opinion,” Muniz told Fox News. “I could show up to work as an actor and dedicate my life to the role and feel like I did the best job ever.”

“And then people see it and go, ‘Yeah, it was okay. I didn’t like it.’ Where, as a race car driver, it’s not subjective,” he explained. “It’s in black and white. You either win and you’re the fastest or you’re slow.”

‘It’s A Dream Come True’

Muniz went on to open up about just how committed he was to this major career shift.

“I was really kind of thrown off the deep end, but that’s how I like to do things,” he continued. “When I do something, I like to commit fully, right? I mean, people go, ‘What are your hobbies?’ I don’t have hobbies. I want to be the best at whatever it is I do. And if I can’t dedicate the time and effort to do that, I just won’t do it. I don’t want to be mediocre. That’s not fun.”

Next month, Muniz will be moving to racing full-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

“I can’t believe it, it’s a dream come true,” he gushed. “It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do, and the fact that I actually get to announce that I’m doing it full-time next year, I’m thrilled. I can’t wait.”

“If I’m going to do this, I want to dedicate myself to it 100 percent … doing everything I can to be prepared for the races and to be the best race car driver I can be,” Muniz added.

Muniz Has Worked ‘Literally 20 Years’ For This

When asked if it was difficult to put acting on hold to pursue his NASCAR dreams, Muniz replied, “I wouldn’t say it was a hard decision.”

“This is something that I’ve been working toward for literally 20 years since I started racing, when I did my first race,” he said, adding that “the feeling of crossing the finish line first” for the first time has been a high that he’s been “chasing” ever since.

“If you want to be really, really good at anything, you’ve got to dedicate yourself to it, and that’s what I’m doing,” Muniz concluded. “I hope my performance proves that on the race track, and we can go and hopefully get Top 10s and Top 5s and hopefully win races next year.”

While it’s come as a surprise to many of Muniz’s fans that he has left Hollywood to pursue his NASCAR career, it can’t be denied that it’s inspiring to see him follow his dreams. We wish Muniz the best of luck in this next phase of his life!
