Lionel Richie is back in high spirits and expressing gratitude to his fans after a recent health scare forced him to pause his tour.
Sending Thanks
The 77-year-old singer shared a carousel of joyful concert photos on Instagram over the weekend. The photos show him smiling, dancing, and engaging with audiences.
Richie wrote, “Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love. I’m doing well, and I’m grateful for all of you. Pittsburgh and Detroit were an absolute joy. The energy, the dancing, the faces in the crowd… we made real memories together. See you in Toronto… let’s party all night long!”
Health Scare
The heartfelt post comes nearly a week after the All Night Long singer had to cancel shows in Chicago and Columbus, Ohio, following a dizzy spell during the opening night of his tour in Minnesota.
According to the United Center, the shows were postponed under medical advice to allow Richie to rest and recover.
The incident occurred at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul. A St. Paul Fire Department official confirmed that Richie was transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel.
While performing his hit Dancing on the Ceiling, Richie paused mid-set and took a seat, later telling the audience he felt light-headed.
Fans captured the moment in video footage as Richie shifted to the piano for a seated performance of Three Times a Lady before leaving the stage for an unscheduled break. The show was officially cancelled about 40 minutes later.
Despite the interruption, Richie maintained his trademark humor and charm, joking to the crowd, “When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down.”
Postposting Concerts
Following the incident, promoter Live Nation confirmed Richie had postponed two upcoming concerts on medical advice.
The statement read, “Under advisement by doctors to rest and return to full health, Lionel Richie has postponed his next two shows on Friday, June 26 in Chicago, IL and Saturday, June 27 in Columbus, OH. He and Earth, Wind and Fire will return to the stage on Tuesday, June 30 in Pittsburgh, PA.”
“Lionel is heartbroken to postpone these two shows and cannot wait to be back performing for his fans. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes fans who have tickets for these two shows. Rescheduled dates will be announced soon.”
