The pop star Katy Perry and the former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made their first public appearance as a couple on Saturday. Now, a source close to Perry is speaking out to claim that the “Roar” singer “didn’t expect” to fall for Trudeau.
Perry ‘Never Saw’ This Romance Coming
“She’s focused on her tour, and Justin has made a real effort to meet her where she is — literally,” the Perry source told People Magazine. “She’s flattered. He’s shown that he’s committed and really cares about spending time with her. It’s clear that he values the connection, and so does Katy. She’s in a great place.”
“Dating Justin is something she never saw coming, but she’s really enjoying this surprising life twist,” the insider added. This source went on to say that Trudeau, 53, flew to Paris to celebrate Perry’s 41st birthday on October 25, “and she loved it.”
Another source close to Perry stated that the couple is prioritizing spending time together despite their respective busy schedules.
“They both have busy schedules but make time for each other and have a really strong connection,” the second source explained. “Katy didn’t expect to fall for somebody so soon, but Justin checks all the boxes. He has a great sense of humor, he’s charming and treats her with respect.”
Perry And Trudeau’s Romance Heats Up
A third Perry insider told US Weekly that her romance with Trudeau is heating up big time.
“Katy is really into it, she’s very happy,” this source gushed. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.”
“Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet,” that insider continued.
Perry and Trudeau first sparked romance rumors back in July, when they were spotted enjoying a dinner date. This came one month after Perry split from her longtime partner, the former Lord of the Rings actor Orlando Bloom. They had been together for eight years, and they share a 5 year-old daughter named Daisy Dove. Perry was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 until 2012.
As for Trudeau, he announced his separation from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, his wife of 18 years and the mother of his three children, in 2023. He was also the prime minister of Canada from 2015 until March of 2025.
Perry ‘Is Taking It Day By Day’
Last month, multiple sources spoke out to claim that Perry and Trudeau are quietly seeing each other.
“They’ve decided to be much more private about it. They are still speaking and are very interested in each other,” one insider said at the time. Another added that their relationship “isn’t serious” since Perry was “extremely busy” on tour.
“Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil,” this second insider concluded. “Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.”
It seems that in the weeks since then, Perry and Trudeau have only fallen for one another even more. It will certainly be interesting to see where their romance goes from here!
