Last weekend, we reported that Katy Perry was forced to cancel a concert at the last minute due to weather. This came the day after Perry released her new single “Watch It Burn” as she desperately tried to revive her career following over a year of backlash over things like her infamous trip to space.

Unfortunately for Perry, however, it appears that this attempt to save her career has backfired. Indeed, it seems to have failed so miserably that fans are going so far as to declare that “it’s over” for her.

Perry’s New Song Flops Badly

After “Watch It Burn” was released last Friday, the song failed to even reach the top 200 of Spotify’s streaming chart both globally and in the United States. The track’s highest peak so far has been No. 127 in Brazil, according to news.com.au.

Yikes! It really doesn’t get much worse than that…

This could not be more humiliating and devastating for Perry, as she had gone all out in trying to ensure that “Watch It Burn” would save her career. Indeed, she promoted “Watch It Burn” with a big budget music video. Perry also performed the song at festival concerts at Rock in Rio Lisboa on June 20 and O Son do Camiño in Spain on June 18 in the hopes of hyping it up.

Fans have been taking to social media in the days since the song’s release to express their shock at just how far Perry’s career has plummeted.

“People really have moved on from her?” one fan commented. “She was, NOT THAT LONG AGO, one of the biggest pop stars on earth.”

“It’s over,” a second social media user bluntly commented. A third wrote, “Unfortunate, because this is the best song she’s released in quite some time honestly.”

Perry’s ‘Tough’ Year

Making this even worse for Perry is the fact that “Watch It Burn” was a deeply personal song for her. While appearing on the Unfamous podcast last month, Perry, 41, admitted that she had been “wrestling with my darkness” with “Watch It Burn.” She also said that “last year was pretty tough.”

“I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be [expletive] angry about,” she continued. “What I’ve done is I pushed it down, but I should be [expletive] angry. I’m allowed to be angry for a [expletive] moment.”

Watch Perry talk more about this in a full meltdown in the video below.

Perry’s Other Recent Fails

Sadly for Perry, however, it appears that “Watch It Burn” failed to connect with fans at all. The song performed even worse than Perry’s last single, “Bandaids,” which dropped back in November. That song debuted at No. 101 on the global Spotify chart before falling off.

Perry’s previous single “Lifetimes” also failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100, as did “Bandaids. On top of that, Perry’s last two studio albums, 2020’s Smile and 2024’s 143, each tanked on the charts.

Perry has not had a song chart since 2024 with her song “Woman’s World.” That track briefly peaked at No. 63 on the Hot 100. However, Perry couldn’t really celebrate that as a success. Indeed, “Woman’s World” was ruthless mocked and savaged by fans and critics alike. It certainly did Perry no favors when it came to reviving her career.

This has been a brutal fall from grace for Perry, who was once one of the most popular pop stars in the world. Judging by this string of flops, however, it appears that those days are long gone.

With “Watch It Burn” being yet another fail, it looks like it’s back to the drawing board for Perry. Only time will tell if Perry will ever be able to save her career, but it’s certainly not looking good for her.
