The pop star Katy Perry, 39, is demanding that all women say “thank you” to singer Madonna, 66, who she describes as being “the greatest.”

Perry Praises Madonna

Perry, set to turn 40 next month, opened up in a new interview about how the controversial Madonna helped her early in her career.

“Madonna was really nice to me,” Perry recalled. “She actually shouted out my song and that was really the beginning of my career. That’s what started to break me.”

Perry is so enamored with Madonna that she insists that all women should be grateful to the “Like A Virgin” singer.

“She’s the greatest,” Perry gushed. “She paved the way. Every person, when you talk about me reaching out to younger artists, every female still needs to continue to say ‘thank you’ to her cause she is breaking down barriers. I’m 40, I still get to do music because of Madonna.”

After Madonna helped her out, Perry tries to pay it forward when it comes to today’s young female artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.

“When I see them and when we cross paths, we talk about it,” Perry said. “I do reach out to them; I think their journey is more unique than what I went through in 2008 when I started.”

“Social media wasn’t there and there wasn’t 8 billion voices speaking all at once,” she continued. There was still a lot to see and hear and protect yourself from, but I think you have to really depend on your tools even more so these days. So, I tell all the girlies that ‘I’m here, I got you.’”

Madonna Reemerges

This comes days after Madonna attended the Dolce & Gabbana’s spring/summer 2025 fashion show during Milan Fashion Week on Saturday. She turned heads wearing a black lace veil that shrouded her entire body. Madonna wore a slit-up-to-there slip dress and corset along with the dramatic head covering.

Afterwards, the founders and designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana praised Madonna on social media.

“Thank you @madonna for believing in us from the very start. Who we are today is, in no small part, because of you! Love,” they wrote on Instagram. “Sensuality, attitude and character. Italian Beauty emerges as the essence of the #DGSS25 Women’s Fashion Show: statement bras, sheer lingerie, shimmering dresses.”

“Styles are redefined, blending iconic hues like Black Sicily, red, white and nude with exquisite textures, to celebrate the strength of #DolceGabbana’s femininity,” they added.

Perry’s New Album

As for Perry, she just released her seventh studio album “143.” Perry has explained that she chose this title because “143 is code for I love you.”

“Before 143 I didn’t have a whole home life that brings me safety and security and love,” she stated. “My joy can never be taken away because my joy is no longer outside of myself.”

Unfortunately for Perry, “143” just became the lowest scoring album on the review aggregation site Metacritic in 13 years. Ouch!

Given the longevity of Madonna’s career, Perry might want to focus on emulating her success moving forward with her future albums!
