Kathy Griffin has officially announced that she’s launching her latest attempt at a standup comedy comeback. This comes eight years after Griffin was “canceled” for posing with the simulated severed head of Donald Trump for a photoshoot.
‘The Gloves Are Off…’
Griffin, 64, is preparing to launch her New Face, New Tour. She’ll be kicking it off in Las Vegas on November 8. It will then run through May of 2026.
Griffin told People Magazine that when it comes to this tour, “the gloves are off.”
“It’s an evening with Kathy Griffin. I’ve been touring so long that I really think if you buy a ticket to my show, you can’t act like you don’t know I’m going to curse like crazy. I’m going to say inappropriate things,” Griffin said. “I’m going to go off on celebrities and talk about whatever is in the pop culture zeitgeist.”
“I would say that the folks coming to my show, they know what they’re in for,” she continued. “I call my audiences very un-shockable because they’ve heard me say it all. And I’ll be saying even worse things this time.”
Griffin went on to pledge that each night of her tour will be a different act.
“I start with local material,” she explained. “If I’m in Tampa, I’ll talk about what celebrities are from Tampa. One time I had to run out of the theater after my show because I thought it would be funny to read aloud the names and addresses of the sex offender list in that town.”
‘New Face, New Tour’
As for the name of her tour, Griffin said that it’s a reference to the response to her revelation last month that she’d undergone her third face lift.
“I got a facelift, which people seem to be fascinated by. And I just want to say I don’t know why, but it cracks me up,” she said. “I’m laughing because I’ve done some political interviews that I did all this research for, and then they’re like, ‘Kathy Griffin gets a facelift.’ So, I know it’s part of the story, and I’m fine with it. I thought naming it New Face, New Tour was funny enough.”
Griffin wants to make it clear that she feels “so much gratitude” that she’s still able to tour after the backlash that she received over her simulated Trump photo.
“I got to tell you, I’m still in shock that I was able to do my last tour and do 75 cities, including the great Carnegie Hall, the great Boston Symphony Hall,” she stated. “And look, I’m not going to sell out every show. I wish I was Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock, and I wish I could say I’m going to sell out every show, but I’m kind of flabbergasted that these offers are coming in.”
Griffin Believes She’s ‘Risen From The Ashes’
Griffin concluded by saying that the “best compliment” she gets these days is from fans who tell her that she’s “risen from the ashes.”
“I just feel so fortunate that I survived the last few years. And now I have my New Face, New Tour lined up. And the audience is saying, ‘Come to my town,’ and I’m saying, ‘Really? You’ll have me? Great. I’ll be there,'” she said. “I’m just letting it all out there.”
Many would argue that had a comedian posed with the simulated severed heads of Joe Biden or Barack Obama, he or she would have been canceled for good. Only time will tell how this tour goes for Griffin, but we certainly won’t be buying tickets to her shows anytime soon!
