It’s been one year since the comedian Kathy Griffin finalized her divorce from her husband Randy Bick. This came after five years of marriage.
Now, the 65 year-old Griffin is shockingly revealing that after their split, she fell in love with a 23 year-old.
Griffin Admits Romance With 23 Year-Old
Though their divorce wasn’t finalized until January of 2025, Griffin and Bick, 47, actually split in 2023. Earlier this week, Griffin revealed in an essay for The Cut that she and Bick hadn’t spoken for two years by the time their divorce was finalized.
While she wasn’t officially divorced, Griffin was eager to start dating again. That’s allegedly when she fell for a man who is 42 years her junior. In defending their romance, Griffin took the opportunity to shame older generations of men for the way that they behave.
“I accidentally fell in love with a 23-year-old,” Griffin confessed. “Because of his age, he didn’t have the usual sexism, misogyny, and biases that guys my age tend to have. He seemed to see me. I know that sounds really corny. Oh God, it sounds so lame! But I felt really comfortable with him, and I felt very content just hanging out.”
Griffin admitted that she knew that it “never could’ve lasted.” That being said, “I really was in love with him. He touched my heart.”
Romance Comes To An End
Though the romance eventually ended, Griffin claims that it showed her that she can still find love at 60.
“It was nice to know that my heart could still feel like that in my 60s, and it was nice to have the universe show me a guy that I really got a kick out of but also respected,” she explained. “I thought he was smart. I thought he could roll in different worlds. It sounds cliché, and maybe he was an old soul, but I don’t know, we just clicked. And that click thing? It doesn’t happen all that much.”
There eventually came a moment when Griffin realized that the 23 year-old was “too young” for her This happened when he told her he “never wanted to have kids and that he could be with me forever.”
“I was like, ‘You don’t know that. You’re 23. You have no idea,’ ” she remembered. “I just wouldn’t do that to him. I mean, when I was 23, I thought I knew a lot of [expletive], but I didn’t. So I had to set that dove free.”
Griffin Always Dates Younger Men
As for their massive age gap, Griffin pointed out that she hasn’t dated someone her age since she was in her 30s.
“I don’t know what it is, but my ex-husband was 18 years younger than me. Pretty much since then, I’ve only been asked out by younger guys,” she alleged. “So I’m constantly called a cougar, but I don’t mind. I kind of am a cougar, which to me just means you have the freedom to choose the person that you want as opposed to the age bracket that society tells you is the only option for you.”
These days, Griffin seems to be more desperate than ever to find love again.
“I’m on four freaking apps. It’s just embarrassing,” the comedian told People Magazine back in November. “I’ve gone on three different dates so far. They were all nice guys, but I didn’t really feel the connection. I just think it’s funny that I’m on there as myself anyway.”
Griffin has become a widely controversial figure in recent years thanks to her radically liberal political views. Only time will tell if that will help her or hurt her in her quest to find love again.
