It’s been ten years since Kathie Lee Gifford’s NFL legend husband Frank Gifford passed away at the age of 84. They had been married for 39 years at the time of his passing. Years later, Kathie Lee found love again with a “very special man” whose identity she kept private. In April of last year, however, Kathie Lee made the sad announcement that she and her boyfriend had broken up.
In a new interview, Kathie Lee, 71, is opening up about her current approach to dating and revealing what her current relationship status is.
Kathie Lee’s Relationship Status
When asked if she’s interested in dating anyone at the moment, Kathie Lee replied, “No, I’m not. I had an unbelievable marriage and was in a relationship that I thought would be the last one of my life, the love of the rest of your life, and that didn’t work out.”
That being said, Kathie Lee wants it to be known that she is still close friends with her mystery ex.
“But I was with him all day yesterday, we’re still great friends,” Kathie Lee told People Magazine. “We were together almost three years, and it just wasn’t meant to be forever. But we love each other, so you just take a day at a time.”
Kathie Lee went on to explain that she does not “love lightly.”
“I’ve only been in love three times in my life and the first two are dead,” she admitted. “So, he’s basically all I’ve got. We’re back to being great friends and it’s perfect.”
Kathie Lee then said that she and her ex are “back to where we started, which is fine.”
“He’s a doll,” she added. “And if the Lord brings me somebody else, that’s fine too. I’m not a desperate woman.”
Kathie Lee Still Misses Frank
Though it’s been a decade since Frank passed away, it’s clear that Kathie Lee still misses him.
“My husband’s been gone now for 10 years, and widowhood is not something I recommend unless you hate your husband,” she stated. “It’s not a club anybody wants to join if they love their husband. But if you hate his guts, you’re relieved.”
When asked if time has made Frank’s passing any easier to handle, Kathie Lee emphatically replied, “No, it’s been 10 years, and my husband was dying for 10 years before he died, so it was a relief when the Lord took him home. He had CTE from football damage and stuff.”

Kathie Lee’s Breakup
In April of 2024, Kathie Lee revealed to the world that she and her “very special man” were going their separate ways.
“My new mantra was going to be my joy is non-negotiable,” she explained. “I’ll negotiate time. I’ll negotiate money with you. But my joy, I can’t. I was in a relationship for several years that just ended recently. And you know, it’s always hard because when you love someone, you love someone deeply. It’s something you miss when it doesn’t last.”
Kathie Lee concluded by revealing her new outlook on love.
“You aren’t supposed to marry everyone you fall in love with. And I don’t want to love easily,” she said. “I’ve been loved three times in my entire life. It’s the people who have meant something deep and powerful in your life that are the hardest things to get over.”
Kathie Lee has long been known as one of the only openly devout Christians in the entertainment world. Indeed, it’s clear that she is a true woman of God.
While it’s sad that Kathie Lee’s latest relationship didn’t work out, she seems to be doing just fine on her own. In the end, Frank was one lucky man to have so many years with such an incredible wife.
God bless you, Kathie Lee Gifford!
