Kate Middleton, the wife of Prince William, is speaking out this week to reveal the “really hard” part about royal life.
‘Really Hard’ Aspect Of Royal Life
The late great Queen Elizabeth, who died in 2022, would have turned 100 earlier this week on Tuesday, April 21. To mark the occasion, Kate was seen speaking with a small group of women at Buckingham Palace. There, Kate admitted that she finds it to be “really hard” when she has to speak at loud events.
“I find these environments to be really hard,” said Kate, 44. “I’ve also got a very soft voice, so I always get told: ‘Speak up a bit louder!’”
Kate attended this event with William, 43, and she was seen happily interacting with guests. She didn’t give a formal speech, as it was King Charles, 77, who gave an address honoring his beloved mother. The Queen died in September of 2022 at the age of 96 after a record-breaking 70 years on the British throne. She is still dearly missed by millions around the world to this day.
William and Kate took to Instagram to post a series of photos of the Queen to honor her on her birthday.
“Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the 100th anniversary of her birth. Inspiring generations through a lifetime of duty,” they wrote in the caption.
During Tuesday’s Buckingham Palace event, Kate also wore jewelry that had belonged to the Queen. This included a three strand pearl necklace and a pair of Bahrain pearl drop earrings. The earrings had been a gift for the Queen from the Hakim of Bahrain on her wedding day in 1947. She wore them many times over the years.
Kate Opens Up About Her Shyness
Kate has long been open about her shyness. Indeed, she told a guest that she gave her first speech as a working royal back in 2012, one year after her wedding. Kate confessed that she finds “doing speeches nerve-wracking.”
After getting engaged in 2010, Kate and William sat down for their first interview as a couple. There, Kate admitted that she felt a bit timid when she first met William when they were both college students at the University of St. Andrew’s in Scotland.
“I actually went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off, feeling very shy about meeting you,” Kate said in this interview.
At an event in 2017, a student told Kate that they were nervous to talk to her. Kate reassured the student by saying, “I’m shy as well, so don’t worry.”
Though Kate doesn’t love giving speeches, she does seem to enjoy talking to people one-on-one. When she talks to people individually, Kate is often seen laughing and smiling.
“There’s a real art to walkabouts. Everybody teases me in the family that I spend far too long chatting,” Kate said in 2016. “I still have to learn a little bit more, and to pick up a few more tips, I suppose.”
We applaud Kate for managing to overcome her shyness to become one of the most popular and personable royals. She continues to be a true inspiration to us all.
God bless you, Kate Middleton!
