Kate Middleton, the wife of Prince William, is speaking out to reveal why she rarely drinks alcohol these days. She made this admission after she was offered a pint at Fabal Beerhall while touring London’s Bermondsey Beer Mile this past week.

Kate Rarely Drinks Alcohol

For Kate, it all comes back to the devastating cancer diagnosis that she received two weeks ago. Now that she’s cancer-free, she doesn’t want to risk anything by throwing alcohol back into the mix.

“Since my diagnosis I haven’t had much alcohol,” explained Kate, 44. “It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.”

Kate went on to ask the beerhall’s owner owner Hannah Rhodes if they have any non-alcoholic brews.

“We don’t yet, I’m afraid,” Rhodes replied. “I would love to do that one day, but we would need quite a bit of tech to do it properly.”

Unfazed by this, Kate chose to drink a soda instead. Meanwhile, her husband William, 43, sampled some lager and cider. The latter appears to have been his favorite!

“I’m a cider man,” William stated. “I like cider. I grew up on cider in the West Country.”

Kate’s Cancer Battle

In March of 2024, Kate made the sad announcement that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She has never publicly disclosed the specific type of cancer that it was.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous,” Middleton said at the time in a video posted to social media. “The surgery was successful.”

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” she concluded. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Kate concluded her cancer treatment in September of 2024. In January of 2025, Kate happily announced that her cancer was in remission. From there, Kate soon returned to her royal duties.

Kate Opens Up About Cancer Battle

In July of last year, Kate traveled to Colchester Hospital in Essex. There, she got more candid about her cancer journey than she ever had before.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment,” Kate said. “Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,” she continued. “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

Kate went on to say that this is “life-changing” for both the patient and their families.

“You have to find your new normal and that takes time…and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be,” the mother-of-three concluded. “But the reality is you go through hard times.”

After successfully battling cancer, we can certainly see why Kate is putting her health first and drastically cutting back on alcohol. In the end, we’re just glad that Kate’s cancer battle went so well, and that she appears to be both happy and healthy.

God bless you, Kate Middleton!
