Joy Behar snubbed the former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood on The View on Tuesday morning. This came after Behar publicly criticized Underwood for performing at the second inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Behar Snubs Underwood

Underwood, 43, appeared on The View on Tuesday alongside her fellow American Idol judges Luke Bryan, 49, and Lionel Richie, 76. When the talk show returned from commercial break ahead of their appearance, however, both Behar, 83, and her colleague Sara Haines, 48, were noticeably absent from the panel.

Behar and Haines had each been present for the first half of the show as they talked about the current headlines that are in the news. This made their absence when Underwood showed up all the more glaring.

Behar later returned to the table after Underwood’s interview ended. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg then informed the audience that Behar would be the day’s guest on the program’s companion podcast, Behind the Table.

Behar Blasts Underwood

This comes one year after Behar was outspoken about her disdain for Underwood performing at the second inauguration of President Trump.

“I wouldn’t do it — even though I cannot sing,” Behar said at the time. “I would not normalize him. She says, ‘I love our country.’ How do you love your country and support and normalize somebody who was a convicted felon, who really wants to destroy the country, in my opinion?”

“I don’t understand how you say you love your country at the same time as you normalize this convicted felon. … OK, fine,” she continued. “And I would not be the person to say don’t do it because I believe in free speech and everything about it. I personally would not do it. No one’s asked me, but that’s another story.”

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who was previously the token conservative on The View, fired back at Behar on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. Indeed, Hasselbeck was quick to defend her friend Underwood from Behar’s attacks.

“That @TheView @JoyVBehar needs to simmer down off my friend,” Hasselbeck wrote. She later doubled down on her Instagram Stories, where she lamented Behar “calling Carrie Underwood Un-American.”

“Joy — @carrieunderwood is an INCREDIBLE WOMAN,” Hasselbeck wrote. “You could learn from her strength.”

Underwood Stands By Inauguration Performance

As for Underwood herself, she’s made it clear that she has no regrets about performing at Trump’s inauguration.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood told People Magazine in January of 2025. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

In 2019, Underwood told The Guardian that she feels like “more people try to pin me places politically.”

“I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins,” Underwood explained at the time. “It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”

In the far-left entertainment industry, it’s rare to find a celebrity who has the guts to stand behind Trump in any way. Behar can ignore Underwood all that she wants to, but we applaud the country music star for continuing to stand by her pro-American beliefs.

God bless you, Carrie Underwood!
