The late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has become the latest celebrity to float the idea of fleeing America. In fact, Kimmel is so serious about this that he’s gone so far as to obtain Italian citizenship.
Kimmel Considering Fleeing America
Kimmel, 57, revealed this during a recent episode of The Sarah Silverman Podcast. There, he explained that he may leave America because he doesn’t like the current political situation under President Donald Trump.
“I did get Italian citizenship, I do have that,” Kimmel said. “What’s going on is as bad as you thought it was gonna be.”
“It’s so much worse, it’s just unbelievable,” he continued. “I feel like it’s probably even worse than he would like it to be.”
Trump Unloads On ‘No Talent’ Kimmel
This came days after Trump unleashed on Kimmel and his fellow liberal late night hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon. Colbert recently learned that CBS is canceling his late night program after the next season. Trump firmly believes that Kimmel and Fallon are next, given the fact that their respective ratings are even lower than Colbert’s.
“Colbert has no talent,” Trump said last Wednesday. “I mean, I could take anybody here. I could go outside to the beautiful streets and pick a couple of people that do just as well or better. They get higher ratings than he did. He’s got no talent.”
“Fallon has no talent. Kimmel has no talent. They’re next,” he added. “They’re going to be going, I hear they’re going to be going.”
Trump previously made a similar statement to this on Truth Social.
“The word is, and it’s a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone,” Trump wrote.
“These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television,” he concluded. “It’s really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!”

Colbert’s Late Night Show Canceled
Colbert and his liberal fans have claimed that his show was canceled for political reasons since he is so anti-Trump. Kimmel has made it clear that he believes that as well. However, it has since been revealed that Colbert’s show was costing $40-50 million per year. This makes it clear that the show was canceled for financial reasons, rather than political.
“Colbert gets no advertising and late night is a tough spot,” one source with direct knowledge of CBS’s decision told The New York Post. “Colbert might be No. 1, but who watches late night TV anymore?”
The television personality Judge Judy Sheindlin said it best when she was asked to comment on Colbert’s show getting the axe.
“I have very little reaction. When a show loses money, it gets cancelled,” Sheindlin bluntly told TMZ. “…CBS is in the business of making money. They gotta do what they gotta do! Otherwise your shareholders are gonna sue you.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves, Judge Judy!
Clearly, Kimmel can see the writing on the wall. He seems to be shaking in his boots over the realization that his late night show is likely on its way out too.
Kimmel can make his potential move about Trump all that he wants to, but what he really fears is the irrelevancy that will inevitably come when his late night show is gone. Like a spoiled toddler, he’d rather pick up his toys and leave then stick around when he’s not getting away.
In the end, America won’t miss Kimmel one bit if he decides to flee to Italy. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Jimmy!
