It’s been two years since the Hollywood star Jeremy Renner was nearly killed in a snow plow accident on January 1, 2023. On Wednesday, Renner celebrated his second “ReBirthday” as he marked the second anniversary of this ordeal.
Renner’s ‘ReBirthday’
Renner, perhaps most famous for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, practically became a real-life Avenger, considering how close he came to death.
“Happy New Year blessings to you all…. Ringing in my second ‘ReBirthday’ today,” Renner wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of himself with hospital staffers. “. “I send out my love, respect, and gratitude for the army of people that it took to put me back together again. Thank you to each and every nurse, doctor, first responder… I literally owe you my life.”
Renner also thanked his fans and his family for their support.
“My gratitude list is very long,” he wrote. “With the amount of love and prayers that flooded in from you all around the world (needing each and everyone of them), my family never leaving my side , with some divine intervention, a bit of luck and a whole lot of miracles … I stand strong again.”
“More Open…More Loved…More Connected. And BLESSED to take my next step, to take MY NEXT BREATH,” Renner concluded. “Thank you with every fiber and cell in my body. I love you ALL ❤️. #MyNextBreath.”
Renner’s Accident
Two years ago, Renner was nearly killed when he was crushed by a snow plow that weighed over 14,000 pounds. At the time, the Hawkeye star was towing his nephew’s vehicle after it got stuck in the snow near his home in Lake Tahoe. While he was doing this, the snow plow began to move. Renner immediately took action to stop his nephew from being hurt.
Things went wrong when the snowcat started sliding and then rolling downhill. This led Renner to jump out of the 14,330 pound machine, and he was ultimately crushed by it.
Afterwards, Renner was left with over 30 broken bones. Indeed, he had breaks to his ribs, knees, ankles, face, pelvis, and hands. Meanwhile, other injuries of Renner’s included a collapsed lung, pierced liver, and a contusion that left his left eye protruding out of his face. Despite this, Renner has no regrets.
“I’m not letting anybody get hurt on my watch,” Renner additionally explained to Men’s Health, adding that he wasn’t about to let the snow plow crush his nephew. “If it was the other way around, if I didn’t get back on that thing and then it crushed him? I would not be a good man right now. … I’d be […] haunted. Can you imagine?”
No. No, we can’t. And the fact that he would do it again after what it cost him shows how good of a person he is.
“But also, I didn’t do it knowing I’d get hurt, man,” he admitted. “I figured, ‘No problem, I got this. I’ll just dive across these tracks, shut off a button, piece of cake!'”

Renner’s Recovery
Renner recalled that after the accident, “everything was a disaster.” This included such simple things as using the bathroom and taking a shower.
“They give you medications so you don’t go to the bathroom, so you get constipated,” he recounted. “And you pee in a jar. It was awful. That’s when you know things aren’t going great — you’re peeing in a plastic jug. It took me 17 minutes to get out of bed.”
Meanwhile, Renner went on to say that at the time, he “was happy to sometimes sit up and push myself into a chair and move a little bit.”
“But a shower — everything took like half a day,” he lamented. “I couldn’t get stuff wet. Your hair gets super greasy and gross and you stink, but I had all these staples I couldn’t wet, and I wasn’t going to […] risk infection. So I had sponge baths.”
