It’s been one year since Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce after just two years of marriage. Now, Lopez has revealed that she’s refusing to date in the wake of this split.
This divorce from Affleck was Lopez’s fourth. Despite this, Lopez is saying that she’s “happy” to be single these days.
‘I’m In My Happy Era…’
“I’m in my happy era,” Lopez, 56, told People Magazine. “I think, for the first time in my life, I feel like I’m free; I’m on my own. And it feels really good.”
Lopez went on to say that she’s been in relationships for much of her life.
“I didn’t really know what that felt like since I was in my early 20s — and even before that,” she explained. “I’ve always had boyfriends. There was always someone in my life, and so many things that I felt like were out of my control.”
These days, Lopez is learning to trust herself more. She’s also started letting go of the pressure she once put on herself.
“I’ve gotten to the point where I really trust myself and appreciate myself a little bit more, instead of being so hard on myself and always trying to prove myself,” she said.
Lopez And Affleck’s History
This comes after a difficult few years for Lopez that saw her marry and divorce Affleck, 53. Indeed, though they were only married for two years, Lopez and Affleck’s love story goes back decades.
Lopez and Affleck met in December of 2001 on the set of their infamous movie Gigli. They became engaged the next year, only to shock fans by calling off their planned wedding in 2003 just days before it was set to take place.
Lopez and Affleck each went on to marry and divorce different people. She married the singer Marc Anthony while he married the former Alias star Jennifer Garner.
Lopez and Anthony were married from 2004 until 2014, welcoming twins during that time. Meanwhile, Affleck was married to Garner from 2005 until 2018. During that time, they had three children.
Lopez and Affleck reunited and quickly rekindled their romance in April of 2021. They then married in July of 2022. This was Lopez’s fourth marriage, while it was Affleck’s second.
Sadly, it didn’t take long for their marriage to go off the rails. Lopez filed for divorce in August of 2024, citing their date of separation as April 26 of that year. Their divorce was finalized in January of 2025.
Lopez And Affleck Remain Close
According to insiders, Lopez and Affleck have remained close in the wake of their divorce.
“Jen and Ben still have a ton of love and respect for each other,” a source told Radar Online. “Their friendship is very much intact, and you only have to look at them when they’re together to see that the vibe is totally chill. There’s very little awkwardness between them.”
“Ben and Jen may have had their differences romantically, but as far as blended families go, they’re a perfect fit, and it’s a big reason why they still make time to hang out and keep the friendly dynamic going,” the insider continued. “They get together fairly frequently, any chance they get, really, and that’s something Jen and Ben both enjoy very much.”
This clearly hasn’t been the easiest of years for Lopez. In the end, perhaps it’s for the best that she’s taking a break from dating.
