It’s been ten months since Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck finalized their divorce after just two years of marriage. On Monday morning, Lopez was asked about this divorce on live television while appearing on the TODAY show.
Let’s just say Lopez didn’t take this question well. In fact, she unraveled as she called out TODAY host Craig Melvin for having the nerve to ask her this question in the first place.
Lopez Gets Asked About Affleck Divorce
Lopez, 56, sat down with Melvin to discuss her new movie musical Kiss of the Spider Woman, which hits theaters on Friday. However, it didn’t take long for the conversation to shift to her divorce as Melvin questioned her about Affleck’s involvement in the film.
“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” Melvin began.
A visibly frustrated Lopez immediately cut him off, saying, “There you go! Look at this guy!”
Undeterred, Melvin proceeded to explain his reasoning when it came to bringing up Affleck.
“But then I read that your ex is an executive producer on the film,” he stated.
Lopez managed to compose herself by laughing off the moment as she gave Affleck some props for helping to get this movie off the ground for her.
“If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made,” she admitted. “And I will always give him that credit.”
Seemingly referring to her divorce, Lopez added, “And yeah, things happen, you have to keep going.”
Lopez Shifts Conversation
Like the pro that she is, Lopez then managed to shift the conversation back to the film itself.
“It’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives,” she explained. “Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well.”
“After [filming] I took some time off and now we’re back,” Lopez continued. “I’m really excited for everybody to see this film. It’s a beautiful film about love.”
“And it sounds like it might have helped saved you,” Melvin noted, to which Lopez replied, “It did, it did!”

Lopez’s Previous Comments
Lopez made similar comments about Affleck’s involvement in Kiss of the Spider Woman in another interview last week.
“The movie wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t for him and Artist Equity,” Lopez told CBS Sunday Morning, referring to Affleck and his production company. “I will always give him credit for that.”
“I told him this was the role I was born to play and I wanted to do it and he was like, ‘Okay,'” Lopez concluded. “And he helped make it happen.”

Lopez And Affleck’s History
Though they were only married for two years, Lopez and Affleck’s love story goes back decades.
Lopez and Affleck met in December of 2001 on the set of their infamous movie Gigli. They became engaged the next year, only to shock fans by calling off their planned wedding in 2003 just days before it was set to take place.
Lopez and Affleck each went on to marry and divorce different people. Indeed, Affleck married Jennifer Garner, an actress best known for starring in the hit TV show Alias, in 2005. They had three children together before they divorced in 2018.
Meanwhile, Lopez married the singer Marc Anthony, staying with him from 2004 until they divorced in 2014. He’s the father of her 17 year-old twins.
Lopez and Affleck reunited and quickly rekindled their romance in April of 2021. They went on to marry in July of 2022.
Sadly, it didn’t take long for their marriage to go off the rails. Lopez filed for divorce in August of 2024, citing their date of separation as April 26 of that year. Their divorce was finalized in January of 2025.
Though this divorce has clearly been far from easy for Lopez, it’s nice to see her seemingly bouncing back so well.
