The country music star Jelly Roll has managed to garner the support of the Tennessee Board of Parole as he fights to get his previous convictions overturned.
Parole Board Backs Jelly Roll
The parole board recommended that Jelly Roll, 40, be given a full pardon. This came after a 45-minute hearing that included statements from various number of witnesses. One of the witnesses was the Nashville Sheriff Daron Hall, who runs the city’s jail.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the parole board voted unanimously to give Jelly Roll the full pardon that he is seeking. Indeed, only one member of the board recused themselves from voting.
“This was incredible,” Jelly Roll said after the vote. “I pray this goes through. But today was special for me, regardless.”
Though the board voted in favor of giving Jelly Roll the pardon, he doesn’t actually have it yet. Instead, the final decision on this will be made by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee.

Jelly Roll’s Criminal History
Jelly Roll has always been open about his past struggles with the law. He has previous convictions for crimes like drug possession, drug dealing, shoplifting and aggravated robbery. Jelly Roll was only 14 when he first went to a juvenile detention center. He then spent years going in and out of prison.
In October of 2024, Jelly Roll went on Jay Shetty’s “On Purpose” to discuss committing armed robbery at the age of 15.
“I don’t know what I was even trying to be when I look back now,” Jelly Roll admitted. “This is how I know I was 15 because the more when I try to make logic of it, I can’t. There was no logic to what I did. It made absolutely no sense. And I learned so much from it and the way that I interact with people.”
During his time behind bars, Jelly Roll entered both Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. He also obtained his GED and took part in a Christian program that helped him find God in a way that he never had before.
Jelly Roll Gives Back
Thankfully, Jelly Roll was eventually able to turn his life around, and his struggles with the law are way in his past now. He first found success in the music world in 2021. Though Jelly Roll is one of the biggest stars in country music today, he still gives back by performing at prisons and rehabilitation centers.
“It started as a passion project that felt therapeutic and would end up changing my life in ways that I never dreamed imaginable and opened doors that I’ve never thought possible,” Jelly Roll told the Tennessee parole board of his prison performances.
“I’ll still be using this same pardon, God willing, to go do missionary work in my 50s and 60s,” he continued. “I want to be an inspiration for people who are now where I used to be – to let them know that change is truly possible One of the reasons I’m asking for your recommendation for this pardon is because I’m looking to take my message of redemption through the power of music and faith through the rest of the world.”
Jelly Roll truly is an inspiration to millions of fans. Indeed, he is living proof that it’s never too late to turn your life around. We hope Governor Lee agrees to give Jelly Roll his pardon, because he definitely deserves it!
