The Oscar-winning Hollywood star Jack Nicholson made his first public appearance in nearly two years over the weekend. Indeed, the 87 year-old star was spotted at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City on February 16 for the fiftieth anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live!

It seems that getting up there in age has led Mr. Nicholson to use a cane.

Nicholson’s First Public Appearance In Nearly Two Years

While sitting in the audience, Nicholson introduced the former Saturday Night Live! star Adam Sandler. The two of them starred together in the hilarious 2003 film Anger Management.

“Ladies and gentlemen, Adam Sandler,” Nicholson said before Sandler took the stage to perform an original song about the history of Saturday Night Live!

“Yeah, baby! Let’s hear it for Jack, baby! Jack made it out tonight! Love you, brother,” Sandler said before he began to sing.

This was Nicholson’s first public appearance since May of 2023, when he was seen sitting courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers game. Check out Nicholson’s brief Saturday Night Live! appearance for yourself in the video below.

Nicholson was later photographed using a cane to get around New York City. Though he is set to turn 88 in April, you would never know it based on how he looks!

Nicholson’s Hollywood Career

Though Nicholson hasn’t acted since 2010, he had an incredibly successful Hollywood career that spanned five decades. He’s been nominated for twelve Oscars, winning three times.

Nicholson first won the Best Actor Oscar for the 1975 film One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. He then won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for 1983’s Terms of Endearment. Finally, Nicholson took home the Best Actor Oscar once again for the 1997 comedy As Good As It Gets.

Nicholson’s Previous Condition

Nicholson’s latest appearance came as a huge relief to his fans, given previous reports about the star. In January of 2023, a source told Daily Mail that Nicholson was holed up in his ritzy Los Angeles mansion because “he doesn’t want to face reality anymore.”

“Jack’s in touch with certain relatives – especially Ray, his protégé, who he’s so proud of – but his socializing days are long gone,” this source alleged. Ray is the youngest of Nicholson’s six children, and he is now 32 years-old.

This insider went on to claim that Nicholson’s family were afraid that he’d die a “recluse” like his fellow Hollywood legend Marlon Brando, who died in 2004 at the age of 80.

“Brando died a virtual recluse after leading such a colorful life, and Jack’s friends are drawing the comparisons,” the source explained. “His kids will visit, but they’re his only connection to the world. It’s like he doesn’t want to face reality anymore – and that’s just sad.”

Nicholson’s Friends Were ‘Worried About Him’

In September of 2021, another friend of Nicholson’s spoke out about his alleged condition.

“Jack and I have been friends for years and he doesn’t leave his house anymore… I think his son and daughter are looking after him now,” this source claimed. “The Mulholland Drive community is pretty close-knit, and they are all worried about him.”

Thankfully, it appears that Nicholson has overcome this and managed to get out of the house. We’re so glad to see that he’s looking happy and healthy, and we hope he had a blast last Saturday night!
