Yesterday, we reported that Jennifer Lopez had filed for divorce from Ben Affleck on their second wedding anniversary. Now, just how much is at stake for both Affleck and Lopez in this divorce has been revealed, thanks to their failure to sign a prenup.
Lopez And Affleck Didn’t Sign A Prenup
In the wake of Lopez’s filing, fans were stunned to learn that she and Affleck never signed a prenuptial agreement when they married in 2022. This means that their short-lived marriage could prove to be extremely costly for them both.
The lack of prenup means that all of the earnings, profits, and assets that Lopez and Affleck both made during their marriage are considered community property. Though it’s only been 24 months, Lopez and Affleck have each been very busy during that time.
Since marrying Lopez, Affleck has starred in movies like Air and Hypnotic. He’s also produced The Instigators and finished filming The Accountant 2. Last year, Affleck found himself on the 2023 list of the highest-paid actors with an estimated $38 million. This came after Air grossed $90 million at the box office.

Lopez Has Also Been Busy
Meanwhile, Lopez has also been busy since marrying Affleck. In the past two years, she’s starred in the movies Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, This Is Me … Now and Atlas. Her current net worth is estimated to be a whopping $400 million.
On top of that, Lopez and Affleck bought a $60 million mansion last year. The 12-bedroom, 24-bathroom property was supposed to be their forever home. However, they put it on the market earlier this summer amidst rumors that their marriage was on the rocks.
In her divorce filing, Lopez listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024. This means that it’s been nearly four months since she Affleck were actually a couple. She unusually filed for divorce herself without using a lawyer. Marilyn Chinitz, who is the matrimonial partner at Blank Rome LLP, told People Magazine that while this is an atypical move, it indicates that Lopez “just wanted to get this done”
“I think that she most likely just wanted to get this done, [that] there was a lot of hesitation and hemming and hawing back and forth, and it’s a statement, ‘I’m moving forward, I’m filing and I’m doing it on my own,'” Chinitz said.

Lopez And Affleck’s History
Lopez and Affleck met in December of 2001 on the set of their movie Gigli. They became engaged the next year, only to shock fans by calling off their planned wedding in 2003 just days before it was set to take place.
Lopez and Affleck each went on to marry and divorce different people. Affleck married the actress Jennifer Garner in 2005 and had three children with her before they divorced in 2018. This was his only marriage before marrying Lopez.
Meanwhile, Lopez married the singer Marc Anthony, staying with him from 2004 until they divorced in 2014. They had two children together.
Affleck was actually Lopez’s fourth husband. Her first marriage was to the actor Ojani Noa, who she was married to from 1997 until 1998. She then married her backup dancer Cris Judd in 2002, and they divorced the next year.
With so many marriages between them, it’s shocking that Affleck and Lopez didn’t think it was necessary to sign a prenup. We can only hope that their divorce goes as smoothly as possible for them both!
