We’ve previously reported that the Hollywood star Tom Selleck was left devastated by the cancellation of his hit show Blue Bloods. He starred on the CBS police procedural drama from 2010 until the final episode aired in December of 2024.

Now, insiders are claiming that Selleck, 80, is still “heartbroken” about the cancelation of Blue Bloods all these months later. Things have gotten so bad that those close to Selleck have started to worry about his health. In fact, Selleck’s close friend and fellow Hollywood star Sam Elliott has reportedly decided to step in and help his buddy during this difficult time.

Selleck ‘In A Rut’ As Elliot Takes Action

“Tom’s down in the dumps,” said one insider.

“Everyone understands he’s heartbroken about losing the show,” the source continued. “But it’s over now and he’s in a rut. He’s neglecting his health and facing some serious consequences as a result.”

Selleck and Elliott have been buddies for decades. Indeed, their friendship goes all the way back to when they starred together in TV Westerns like The Sacketts (1979) and The Shadow Riders (1982). After a lengthy career in Hollywood, Elliott knows exactly what it’s like to be in the “rut” that Selleck has found himself in.

“I’ve had those periods in my career when I was sitting around waiting for a phone call,” Elliott, 81, previously told Business Insider. “It’s a frustrating game, that’s the downside of this business — the rejection.”

That’s why Elliott wants to step in and help the former Magnum P.I. star when he needs his support.

“He wants to help Tom out and maybe go to the gym together, anything to get the guy out of the doldrums,” the insider explained. “Sam could give him tips for a healthier way of life. It’s not just about changing diet and exercise, it’s changing attitude towards life’s adversities.”

“His heart is coming from a place of love and care for Tom, who he’s known for a long time,” the source concluded. “Sam would hate to see Tom shorten his life span with these choices he’s making.”

Selleck’s Fight To Save Blue Bloods

This comes after Selleck spent much of last year desperately trying to save Blue Bloods. He frequently pointed out that the show was still a hit for CBS in its Friday night time slot.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck admitted to TV Insider in October of 2024. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!”

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” he continued. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

Selleck Left ‘Disappointed’ By Blue Bloods Cancelaton

Despite Selleck’s efforts, CBS still canceled Blue Bloods. The network then immediately replaced it with a spinoff called Boston Blue, which will star Selleck’s Blue Bloods co-star Donnie Wahlberg. Boston Blue will be airing in the Blue Bloods time slot this fall. It remains to be seen if Selleck will be appearing on Boston Blue in any capacity.

“Yes, Tom is very disappointed that the show ended,” a source told Daily Mail earlier this month. “He loved it. But there is no bad blood. Donnie recently approached him about starring, which is something he would like to do. But there aren’t any immediate plans for Tom to appear.”

Blue Bloods was one of the few shows on television that celebrated both law enforcement and family values. That made it beloved by millions of fans who consistently tuned in to watch every Friday.

We can certainly understand Selleck’s “disappointment” at CBS deciding to cancel this incredible show. Here’s hoping that he can pull himself of this rut with the help of good friends like Elliott.

God bless you, Tom Selleck. We’re all pulling for you!
