The Hollywood icons Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for 43 years. Despite this, they have never gotten married. Now, they are finally revealing why they’ve never decided to marry each other, even though they’ve been madly in love for decades.

Russell Talks Hawn Romance

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Russell recalled meeting Hawn for the first time on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band back in 1967. At the time, he was 15 years-old, and “she was a 21-year-old dancer.”

Nothing romantic happened between the pair at the time. However, that all changed when they worked together again years later.

“Goldie and I met again in 1983, while working on the film Swing Shift,” said Russell, 75. “By then, both of us had been through divorces, and she had two small kids—Oliver and Kate [Hudson]—and I had one, Boston. We hit it off and agreed, ‘Let’s have fun until we don’t.’ It’s been 43 years.”

Sure enough, Russell and Hawn, 80, are still having fun together all these years later. Indeed, they’ve created a close blended family that includes their son Wyatt, who they welcomed in July of 1986.

These days, Russell said that he and Hawn “split our time between homes in L.A., Palm Desert, California, Old Snowmass, Colorado, and New York.” He admitted that his favorite of their homes is the one that they own in Old Snowmass.

“It’s a large, beautiful log-cabin lodge on a ranch that we moved into a little over 40 years ago,” Russell explained. “Goldie and I share a passion for log homes. I never got that out of my system, starting with the one in Maine.”

Hawn Has No Regrets

Hawn has also been open in the past about her and Russell’s decision never to get married. It’s clear that like Russell, she has no regrets about not walking down the aisle again.

Back in 2007, Hawn told Women’s Day that she and Russell “have done just perfectly without marrying.”

“I already feel devoted,” she said. Hawn added that as long as her “emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving,” the two of them are doing “fine.”

“We both have independent finances, we’re both independently well-off,” she explained. “We have raised our children brilliantly. They are beautiful people. We did a great job there and we didn’t have to get married to do that. I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry.”

Earlier this year, Hawn said that “freedom” has been a cornerstone of her relationship with Russell from the very beginning.

“I have a relationship with birds,” Hawn said while appearing on The Dan Buettner Podcast. “I’m a bird. And you leave the cage door open, I may never fly out. But if you close that door, for my freedom and my independence, I would probably take all my feathers off.”

Hawn went on to say that it’s “a freedom of self” that makes her relationship with Russell, 74, so successful.

“It’s a freedom of basically not melding into somebody else, when you’re copacetic on certain areas and you have freedom,” she stated.

Hawn And Russell’s Mutual Sexual Attraction

When asked why she’s kept choosing Russell for over four decades, Hawn’s answer was was simple.

“Because I have respect for him because I think he’s an amazing person,” she stated. Hawn added that she’s “also very sexually attracted to him. And that’s important. If you have a long-term sexual relationship, that’s actually really healthy. He’s my sexual object.”

Hawn then described Russell as being “so smart.” She also gushed that he’s “such a great actor, and I find him incredibly handsome to this day. Kids love him. We’re an unbelievably happy family — most of the time. … There’s a cohesiveness. Why would I want anybody who is perfect? There is no such thing.”

In the crazy world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find a romance that stands the test of time. While it would be nice to see them get married, we’re just glad that Hawn and Russell are still happy together after so many years.

God bless you both, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell!
