The singer Gwen Stefani, 56, is speaking out to reveal how she found God at the age of 44.

Stefani Finds God

Stefani turned to Christianity after welcoming her third child with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. She described this experience as being her “first miracle.”

Stefani recalled having discussions with an “atheist Jew” who converted to Judaism. It was these chats that started “waking [her] up.”

“He was studying the Torah, and he had this big epiphany awakening, and he start[ed] talking to me about the Torah,” Stefani told the Hallow: Prayer and Meditation app. “I was desperate at this point during all this. I really wanted to have another baby. I really did. I couldn’t, and I was old.”

Stefani’s son Kingston, who is now 19, asked her for another sibling when he was 8 years-old. This came after she heard him praying for her to conceive.

Stefani told Kingston in response, “I’m sorry, your mommy is too old to have a baby.”

“It was like, four weeks later, and I was pregnant with Apollo,” Stefani remembered. “I had him at 44 years old, naturally.”

Stefani went on to describe becoming a mother for a third time as being a “full-on gift” and “the first miracle.”

At the time, Stefani felt pressure because she didn’t think that she understood Christianity enough.

“It’s almost scary because the more you know, the more fear you get,” she admitted. “You realize, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m running out of time and I need to get this together. I’ve got to be a real Christian! I’m not gonna make it.'”

Stefani Finds ‘Christ’s Love’

Stefani married Rossdale in a Catholic church in 2002. They divorced in 2016, and their marriage was later annulled in 2021. That same year, Stefani married the country music star Blake Shelton.

In this same interview, Stefani confessed that she had never “experienced active love” before she met Shelton. Cavins referred to this feeling as “Christ’s love.”

“I also experienced active love, I think, for the first time when I met my husband because I had never really received active love,” Stefani said.

“And I don’t think I knew how to even receive it,” she continued. “Like, it was just like I would be so uncomfortable when someone was sacrificing or actively trying to love me through their actions by maybe sacrificing something.”

Stefani went on to talk about how her relationship with God has evolved. She confessed, “I thought that I had something,” but she can’t compare it to what she has now.

“I remember feeling like I know I can do all these things. Like when I get on stage, I turn into this person, right, which is totally part of who I am,” Stefani explained. “But I don’t know why or how it happens. It felt weird, and I would get really scared about it.”

‘God Made Me Do This’

Stefani then remembered wondering every time she got on stage or sat down to write a song if she would be able to do it. Indeed, she admitted, “I always had so much anxiety about it.”

Stefani also said that she knew that her talent “wasn’t coming from me.” However, she also “didn’t necessarily know it was coming from God.”

“I always thought it would be very arrogant to say, ‘Oh, this is my gift. This is what I’m talented at. This is what I’m good at,'” she added. “But then I remember at a certain point in the last 10 years going, ‘No. God made me to do this. And if I don’t do it and share it, that’s a sin. I have to keep doing it.'”

“Even if it’s not through being in a church and talking about it, but just through sharing my story through a song,” Stefani concluded. “Even if it’s a silly song, it says bananas in it, and it makes people happy when they go to college. Whatever it is, that’s what I was made for, I guess. God chose me to do that.”

In the crazy world of entertainment, it’s rare to find a celebrity who is so open about their Christian faith. We applaud Stefani for continuing to use her platform to spread the word of the Lord.

God bless you, Gwen Stefani!
