Donnie Wahlberg is speaking out to reveal what his former Blue Bloods co-star Tom Selleck really thinks about his spinoff Boston Blue.
What Does Selleck Think About Boston Blue?
Wahlberg, 56, and Selleck, 81, starred together as father and son on Blue Bloods from 2010 until it went off the air in December of 2024. Wahlberg was then given his own spinoff Boston Blue, which premiered in the fall of 2025.
In a new interview, Wahlberg is claiming that Selleck is supportive of Boston Blue.
“[With] Tom, when the time is right, I’m sure we’ll find something to do together [on the show],” Wahlberg told US Weekly. “Tom supported me doing this.”
Wahlberg went on to say that Selleck “may want to play” Frank Reagan again, or he “may not.”
“But it will really depend on the timing, the situation and the script most of all. But we’ve had other members of the cast of Blue Bloods on. It’s been incredible,” Wahlberg continued. “We had Grandpa Reagan. We have a few surprises before the season ends of other Reagans. It’s so great.”
“Of course, it would be lovely to have Tom,” Wahlberg concluded. “It would be wonderful. But when the time is right. Until then, onward.”
Selleck ‘Heartbroken’ By Blue Bloods Cancellation
This comes after Selleck was left “heartbroken” by the cancellation of Blue Bloods. He spent about a year desperately trying to save the show. Indeed, he frequently pointed out that the police procedural was still a hit for CBS in its Friday night time slot.
“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck admitted to TV Insider in October of 2024. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful. In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were No. 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re No. 6!”
“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” he continued. “I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while.”

‘There Is No Bad Blood…’
In August of last year, an insider said that while Selleck is still disappointed by the cancelation of Blue Bloods, he is still happy that Wahlberg was given a spinoff.
“Yes, Tom is very disappointed that the show ended,” this source told Daily Mail. “He loved it. But there is no bad blood. Donnie recently approached him about starring, which is something he would like to do. But there aren’t any immediate plans for Tom to appear.”
Meanwhile, Wahlberg recently told People Magazine that he had “the pleasure of calling all my castmates and telling them” that Boston Blue had been renewed for a second season.
“I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes. Every single one of them, and so did I,” he said. “And when I called Jenny [McCarthy] and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”
Wahlberg has been married to McCarthy, 53, since 2014.
“Well, I’m an EP too, so I said as one of the EPs, I’d like to be the one to tell them. And everyone agreed,” Wahlberg concluded.
Blue Bloods and Boston Blue are two of the rare modern shows that promote both law enforcement and family values. While we miss Blue Bloods dearly, Boston Blue is still the kind of television show that is more important now than ever before.
We can only hope that Selleck makes an appearance on Boston Blue in the future, as it would be great to see him and Wahlberg share the screen again!
