Donnie Wahlberg is currently starring on the CBS police procedural Boston Blue. The show is a spinoff of Blue Bloods, which Donnie starred in from 2010 until it ended in 2024 .

In a new interview, Donnie has revealed that he’s eager for his younger brother Mark Wahlberg to appear in Boston Blue. However, according to him, Mark has refused to make an appearance on his series.

Mark Refuses To Appear On Boston Blue

While appearing on The Tonight Show last week, Donnie told host Jimmy Fallon that he’d love to get Mark to appear in Boston Blue.

“In terms of dream [cameos], I’d like to get some other Boston guys in it,” said Donnie, 56. “Mark Wahlberg. Maybe, I don’t know. He don’t want to act with me.”

“Do you know Mark Wahlberg?” Jimmy quipped. Donnie replied, “Yeah, but he don’t want to act with me.”

Jimmy responded by suggesting that instead of playing himself, Mark can guest star as “Marky Mark.” Donnie was a fan of this idea, saying that Mark, 54, could portray an “old, retired Marky Mark” who sells hot dogs at Celtics games.

Mark isn’t the only Boston native that Donnie wants to appear on his series. Indeed, he is also hoping that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will be up for guest starring on Boston Blue.

“Now, you’re not a Bostonian but you do a good accent,” Donnie told Jimmy, 51. “You do a good Boston.”

“I love Boston,” Jimmy replied. “I would love to do it.”

Watch Donnie and Jimmy talk more about this in the video below.

Donnie Discusses Filming In Boston

Donnie’s character in Boston Blue is an NYPD veteran who winds up working for the Boston Police Department in an effort to be closer to his son Sean (Mika Amonsen). The series also stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben and Marcus Scribner.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Donnie admitted that filming in his hometown of Boston can get “crazy.” He said this while being interviewed on Live with Kelly and Mark.

“We don’t get anything shot,” Donnie said. “Every take, I’m literally saying, ‘Give me your hand, sir, you’re under arrest,’ and [everyone is saying] ‘Donnie! Donnie!’”

“The duck boat tours, which are very famous in Boston, they drive by and have a headset on with a speaker,” he continued. “And it’s literally like, ‘Over there you’ll see Donnie Wahlberg in the wild. He grew up three doors down from me, I knew his mother, God rest her soul.'”

Boston Blue Renewed For Season 2

Last month, Donnie told People Magazine that he had “the pleasure of calling all my castmates and telling them” that Boston Blue had been renewed for a second season.

“I did it, and every cast member got tears in their eyes, every single one of them, and so did I,” he said. “And when I called Jenny [McCarthy] and told her about that, we shared a nice cry.”

Donnie has been married to Jenny, 53, since 2014.

“Well, I’m an EP too, so I said as one of the EPs, I’d like to be the one to tell them. And everyone agreed,” Donnie concluded.

Blue Bloods was long one of the only shows on television that promoted both law enforcement and family values. Though we still miss it dearly, we’re glad that Boston Blue is also still promoting both of those things.

Boston Blue airs on CBS on Fridays at 10pm. We can only hope that Mark changes his mind and decides to appear on Boston Blue in the future. That would certainly be fun!
