It’s been one month since the country music legend Dolly Parton lost her beloved husband Carl Dean. They had been married for nearly 60 years before he died on March 6 at the age of 82.
In the weeks since then, Parton has been leaning on her strong Christian faith. In a newly-surfaced interview, Parton opened up about the love that she has for God.
Parton’s Doesn’t ‘Make Fun Of Jesus’
Parton recently collaborated with the pop star Sabrina Carpenter on her single Please Please Please. In a clip posted to Parton’s Instagram in February, the “Jolene” singer explained that respecting Jesus was a necessity for her when it came time to do this collaboration.
“Of course, [Carpenter] can talk a little bad now and then,” Parton explained. “I told her, I said, ‘Now, I don’t cuss. I don’t make fun of Jesus, I don’t talk bad about God.”
Parton went on to state that she does not “say dirty words, on camera, but [am] known to if I get mad enough.”
Sure enough, Parton’s wishes were respected for this single. The lyric “I beg you don’t embarrass me, mother[expletive]” was swapped out to “I beg you, don’t embarrass me like the others.”
This video was posted to Parton’s Instagram on February 14. Unbeknownst to fans, her beloved husband Dean was in the final weeks of his life at the time. Parton recently revealed to Knox News that Dean “suffered a great deal” before he died meaning she was likely leaning on her faith in a big way.

Parton’s Previous Comments On Her Faith
This is far from the first time that Parton has talked about her strong Christian faith. It’s a part of who she is and what she represents.
“I don’t want to be worshipped, because there’s a scripture in my Bible that talks about idol worship,” she told People Magazine in 2021. “And I see that happening all the time with movie stars and these celebrities… But if I can set an example, then that’s great.”
Parton later doubled down on this in a 2023 interview.
“My faith impacts everything that I do because I do believe that, through God, all things are possible,” Parton told Fox News. “And so I always ask God to bless everything that I do and the people that I work with and to bring all the right things and right people into my life and to take the wrong ones out.”
“I just think that my spirituality has been a guiding light in my life and my strength, really, in my creative energy,” she continued. “And my spiritual energy has really been a great force to keep me going all these years and still being productive.”

Parton’s Husband ‘Is In God’s Arms Now’
Days after Dean’s passing, Parton made it clear that she’s leaning on her faith now more than ever.
“He is in God’s arms now and I am okay with that. I will always love you,” Parton said in a brief statement posted to her social media pages. This was a clear reference to her 1973 hit song “I Will Always Love You.”
