Over the past few months, it’s been reported that Jennifer Aniston is working on a remake of the classic 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5. The beloved original movie starred Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin. Rumor has it that Aniston is eager for all three to make appearances in the remake.

Unfortunately for Aniston, however, it doesn’t seem like that will happen. In a new interview, Parton gave her thoughts on the rumored 9 to 5 remake. While Aniston has her full support, Parton wants it to be known that she has no interest in appearing in the remake herself.

Parton Has ‘No Plans’ To Be In 9 to 5 Remake

“Jane [Fonda], Lily [Tomlin] and I have been trying for years to try to come up with a ‘9 to 5: Two’ through the years,” Parton, 79, told HuffPost. “It never happened.”

Parton went on to say that “in Jennifer’s story, they wanted us to be involved in it somehow.”

“But we have no plans to be in that,” the country music legend continued. “But I do wish her the best, because the script I read, I thought, was really good and a new and different take that really brings the office up to date the way that people live now.”

“I think a lot of it is that, you know, we’re all older now,” Parton explained. “We’re not gonna look that good on the big screen. All of us up there with all those beautiful, young, fresh people … so I don’t know.”

Parton Supports Aniston’s Remake Efforts

Though she won’t be appearing in the remake, Parton is still supporting Aniston, 56.

“But I love Jennifer. I think it’ll be a wonderful thing,” Parton clarified. She added that she and Aniston “have been friends through the years.”

Parton may not be interested in an onscreen appearance. However, she did offer up her musical services to Aniston.

“I told her, I said, you’re more than welcome to use my song ‘9 to 5,’ and if you need some additional songs, or if you need the ‘9 to 5’ song rewritten or reworked, you know, to do that,” Parton said. “But I’m sure that they’ll find some great person. I don’t have any one myself in mind for it, but there’s somebody ― there’s a [Doralee, Parton’s character in the movie] out there.”

“I really would love to see the show, and I’d love to be able to write some music, be involved in that way with it,” Parton concluded.

Tomlin And Fonda Weigh In

It was first reported in April of last year that Aniston’s Echo Films was set to produce a “reimagining” of 9 to 5. Tomlin and Fonda spoke out at the time to give their thoughts on this.

“We hope she has great success,” Tomlin, 85, told Variety. “It’s a hard nut to crack because the issues are somewhat different.”

“I hope she does it,” interjected Fonda, 87.

“There’s still the undercurrent of the same kind of negativity towards females … [they’re] not easy-to-solve issues,” Tomlin chimed back in to say. “So we’re very eager to see what they do.”

Aniston herself has stayed quiet about her alleged 9 to 5 remake. While it’s unfortunate that Parton won’t be appearing in it, it will certainly be interesting to see how it turns out!
