It’s been one week since the country music legend Dolly Parton celebrated her 80th birthday on January 19. Now, Parton is speaking out to thank her fans for their birthday wishes.
Indeed, she’s doing this in the most quintessentially Dolly Parton was possible, showing that her sense of humor is still very much intact in the process.
Parton Gives Back After 80th Birthday
Parton took to Instagram days after her 80th birthday to announce the release of a new version of her song “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.”
“Well, hey there! It’s Dolly, and I’ve made it! I’m 80 years old,” Parton began in her video. “Can you believe that? Anyway, what do you give somebody that’s 80 years old? Well, you don’t take gifts. You give things.”
“I’m gonna give you the gift of a bunch of friends that stopped by to help me sing on a song called ‘Light of a Clear Blue Morning,’ a song I wrote years ago,” she continued. “In fact, it’s 50 years old. We did a new version of it, Kent Wells producing it, and then I’m giving you the gift of Queen Latifah, Reba McEntire, Miley Cyrus and Lainey Wilson, with David Foster playing the piano.”
Parton went on to say that she believes that the new version “really lifts us up this day and time.”
“Lord knows we could use that, right?” she added.
“Anyway, thank you for all the birthday wishes,” Parton stated. “And I hope I live another 80 years, but I hope I’ve still got my plastic surgeons in line.”
“Oh Lord, I’ve outlived so many plastic surgeons,” the country music icon concluded with a laugh. “Well, happy birthday to me!”

Parton Talks Plastic Surgery
Parton has always been open about her love for getting plastic surgery. During an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in November of 2023, however, Parton cautioned her fans to be picky about what specific plastic surgeons they choose to go under the knife for.
“I always say, just find the best doctors,” Parton said at the time. “Some of my celebrity friends, I give them the names of the doctors that I’ve used.”
“But you’ve just gotta be very careful not to overdo it, ‘cuz you never know, anytime you go under knife, you could come out looking not good,” she added.
Parton’s Kenny Rogers Warning
Parton went on to reference her late fellow country music star Kenny Rogers, who died in 2020 at the age of 81. It seems that Rogers was left with regrets after undergoing plastic surgery himself.
“Just like when Kenny Rogers,” she lamented. “It’s especially hard for men, because you can’t wear the makeup and all the different eyelashes and stuff, and that was one of the best doctors. You just never know how you’re gonna heal, where it’s gonna go, so you absolutely need to find the best doctors, the most talked about doctors are the ones highly recommended.”
“If you’re gonna do anything about your face, you can cover up stuff if someone screws up things on your body, but boy, if you live with your face out there, you gotta be careful,” Parton warned. “So I try to do just little bits at a time, I don’t do really big stuff. And then I do fillers, Botox and Juvederm, or whatever, only when I have to. And even then, I try to be careful.”
Parton is a true living legend, and there will never be another one like her. While it’s good that she has such a great sense of humor about plastic surgery, we’re also glad that she’s so open with her fans about the potential downsides of undergoing these cosmetic procedures.
In the end, this serves as a reminder as to why we all love Parton so much. God bless you, Dolly Parton!
