Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are reportedly so disillusioned with life in the U.S. that they are frantically looking for a home in Portugal. This was alleged by a former staffer who said that life in America simply wasn’t “what they thought it would be.”

Meghan And Harry Allegedly Buy House In Portugal

Meghan and Harry allegedly paid $4.7 million for one of 300 soon-to-be-constructed residences at the 722-acre CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club. This ritzy development is located about 81 miles south of Lisbon.

King Charles’ former personal butler Grant Harrold is speaking out to claim that Meghan and Harry’s rumored move overseas shows that the couple is “edging their way back in the direction of the UK.”

“Their life in the US — there’s so many people that move away and move back, so I don’t think there’d be anything unusual about Harry and Meghan leaving the US for Europe,” Harrold told The New York Post.

“But maybe living in the States wasn’t what they thought it would be and that could be why they’re now supposedly edging their way back in the direction of the UK,” he added.

Meghan And Harry May Want To Reconcile With Royals

Harrold has alleged that this rumored move indicates that Meghan and Harry are eager to reconcile with the royal family. The climate of Portugal is similar to that of Southern California. That’s where the couple currently live with their two children, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.

“There’s no obvious reason for choosing Portugal as a location to live, but let’s not forget that it’s not unusual for royals to set up overseas,” Harrold continued. “Some have historically moved to France, Princess Margaret used to spend a lot of time in Mauritius, so Harry would be following in the footsteps of other royals who have done something similar.”

Before moving to Portugal, however, Meghan and Harry could face a hurdle in the form of obtaining European Union citizenship. This citizenship would allow them to travel freely through the Schengen Area, which includes 29 countries. Actually getting this citizenship can be easier said than done, though.

Harrold concluded by saying that he believes that Meghan and Harry will be able to keep their Hollywood friendships, even if they move across the world to Portugal.

“The friendships they have I’m sure they will keep, as it is for anyone who moves abroad, friends will come and visit,” he said. “I don’t think it will be the end of their celebrity friendships at all.”

Meghan And Harry’s History

Meghan and Harry shocked the world back in 2020 when they stepped down as senior royals. They then moved across the world to Southern California, where they eventually settled in Montecito.

This rumored move to Portugal comes as Meghan and Harry are looking to solidify their Netlix millions. Indeed, they signed a five-year agreement with the streaming giant back in 2020 that was worth an estimated $100 million.

Sources say that Meghan and Harry want to be “smart” with this money.

Many see Meghan and Harry as controversial figures. This is because of the stress that they put Queen Elizabeth through in her final years before her 2022 death. Indeed, they may find that few Americans are sad to see them go, if they move away.
