A beloved former co-star of the Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke has passed away.
Hollywood Star Pippa Scott Passes Away
It’s just been revealed that Pippa Scott, best known for starring in movies like The Searchers and Auntie Mame, died on May 22. She was 90 years-old.
Scott’s death was confirmed by her daughter Miranda Tollman. She told The Hollywood Reporter that Scott died peacefully of congenital heart failure at her home in Santa Monica, California.
Scott had 89 film and television credits to her name in an acting career that spanned over half a century. She was born in 1934 in Los Angeles to the stage actress Laura Straub and the Oscar-nominated screenwriter Allan Scott. Indeed, he was the man behind the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musicals Top Hat (1935) and Swing Time (1936).
Scott attended Radcliffe and UCLA before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. She made her Broadway debut in 1956 in Jed Harris’ Child of Fortune.
Throughout her decades-long career in Hollywood, Scott had guest spots on shows like Mr. Lucky, The Virginian, Maverick, Thriller, Have Gun — Will Travel, Dr. Kildare, The Fugitive, Wagon Train, Ben Casey, Perry Mason, Wagon Train, F Troop, I Spy, Family Affair, Medical Center, Gunsmoke, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Mission: Impossible, Barnaby Jones, Columbo, The Waltons, Ironside, The Streets of San Francisco, Mannix and Remington Steele.
Scott Stars In Movie With Van Dyke
One of Scott’s best-known film roles came in 1971, when she starred alongside Van Dyke in Cold Turkey. Directed by Norman Lear, the film is a dark comedy that is meant to be satire.
“Hoping for positive publicity, a tobacco company offers $25 million to any American town that quits smoking for 30 days,” the movie’s official description reads. “Amidst a media frenzy, Eagle Rock, Iowa accepts the challenge while the company’s PR man tries to sabotage the effort.”
Van Dyke and Scott are the two stars of the movie, playing Reverend Clayton Brooks and his long-suffering wife Natalie. The film is nothing short of hilarious, and it still holds up to this day!
Van Dyke, who is set to turn 100 in December, has yet to comment publicly on Scott’s death. Last month, however, Van Dyke admitted that the hardest part about living to such an advanced age is watching his friends pass away.
‘The Curse Of Living To Almost 100’
Van Dyke and his wife Arlene Silver, 53, recently revealed that the former Dick Van Dyke Show star and his longtime friend Ed Asner of The Mary Tyler Moore Show fame were set to appear in a remake of the classic comedy The Odd Couple. Sadly, Asner ended up passing away in August of 2021 at the age of 91 before this could happen.
“That would’ve been such fun, and we lost it. I’ve lost a lot of friends,” Van Dyke lamented.
“He’s outlived everybody,” Silver explained. “That’s the curse of living to almost 100.”

Sadly, it appears that Van Dyke has outlived yet another Hollywood friend in Scott. Despite this, however, he has managed to look at the bright side. Indeed, his wife said that Van Dyke is “still so positive.”
“Well, life’s been good to me,” Van Dyke simply admitted. “I can’t complain.”
