Yesterday, we reported that Dick Van Dyke “didn’t sleep” after the murder of his longtime friend Rob Reiner on Sunday. This came just one day after Van Dyke celebrated his own 100th birthday.
Now, things have gotten even worse for Van Dyke, as his wife Arlene Silver is claiming that she’s being targeted by a stalker.
Van Dyke’s Wife Targeted By Stalker
Silver, 54, took to Instagram on Tuesday to claim that this alleged stalker has left her in fear to even leave her home.
“There’s someone kind of stalking me around Malibu,” Silver said. “And I don’t feel comfortable going out, on top of everything else.”
This was seemingly a reference to the murder of Reiner and his wife Michele. They were allegedly stabbed to death by their own son Nick on Sunday. Nick has since been arrested and charged with their brutal murders.
“I go to yoga for my mental health and just to move my body, and there’s some guy, just, you know, he’s been hanging around all the Dick Van Dyke stuff, and I said something to him yesterday, and hopefully…” Silver explained before she trailed up.
“It’s hard to explain, but I don’t want to give him any attention,” she continued. “It sucks, but that’s the one hour that I leave to do something for myself. So, hopefully, he will go away, or else I’m gonna have to have a bodyguard escort me to my yoga class. Like, really?”
“There’s always gotta be somebody to mess things up,” Silver lamented.
Van Dyke Wants To Protect Silver
Silver went on to say that Van Dyke, 100, has offered to accompany her to yoga class to protect her. However, she’s worried that this is exactly what the stalker is hoping for.
According to Silver, the stalker has been targeting her “for a couple months.” Though she “didn’t want to give him any attention,” she finally mustered up the courage to speak to him on Monday.
“He acted like, ‘What?’ Dude, you know what you’re doing. Don’t mess with me but I will crack you,” Silver warned as she slapped her hands in a chopping motion. “And how do you relax in yoga class when you know this guy could just walk into your yoga class.”
Clearly, Van Dyke’s wife is someone that you do not want to mess with!
“It’s unfortunate, on top of everything else,” Silver said.
That’s when Silver opened up about how much Van Dyke is struggling with the murders of the Reiners.
Van Dyke Struggles With Reiner’s Murder
“Such a weird, wonderful, awful weekend,” Silver said, adding that she “can’t not talk about this horrible thing. I mean, Dick’s birthday was so amazing, so over-the-top beautiful, and then this. I was relieved and happy, and then this happened yesterday.”
Silver went on to say that after learning about the Reiners’ murders, Van Dyke “didn’t sleep.” Indeed, the former Mary Poppins star “wanted to stay up” to learn more information.
“We didn’t know what happened,” she explained. “It just said, the first reports are two people found in the house.”
Van Dyke had known Rob since the latter was a teenager. As for Silver, she had been a fan of Rob’s work long before she ever got the chance to meet him.
“And then Rob and Carl [Reiner] were the first people I ever met with Dick,” she recalled. “Rob and Michele were always together, like Dick and I. And I always felt part of the Reiner family; they always treated me like part of their family. And this is just unbelievable.”
“I can’t imagine if Norman Lear and Carl were alive for this,” Silver lamented. This was a reference to Rob’s close friend and former boss Lear, the All in the Family creator. Carl died in 2020 at the age of 98. Lear later passed away himself in December of 2023 at the age of 101.
‘It’s Terrible…’
Silver ended her video by highlighting just how difficult it is for her and Van Dyke to grapple with this unspeakable tragedy.
“It’s terrible,” Silver concluded. “I want to celebrate Dick, I want to keep doing that, but I also want to acknowledge this horrible thing.”
Turning 100 is an incredible achievement, and Van Dyke managed to celebrate that on Saturday. In the days since then, it’s unfortunate that things have taken such a tragic and disturbing turn for both him and his beloved wife.
