The Hollywood legend Dick Van Dyke, 99, has been married to his 53 wife Arlene Silver since 2012. Despite their massive 46 year age difference, Van Dyke and Silver want the world to know that they are just as in love as ever. In fact, they have been proving their naysayers wrong from the very beginning of their relationship.
Van Dyke And Silver Prove Their Haters Wrong
“We get along so well,” Van Dyke told People Magazine this past weekend. Silver chimed in to add, “We just care about each other so much.”
“Everybody said it wouldn’t work,” Van Dyke continued. Silver was quick to agree, saying, “Yeah. I mean it’s like eerie how well it works. People the same age don’t last.”
Van Dyke and Silver met at the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards, where she was working as a makeup artist. Nearly twenty years later, Van Dyke has never forgotten their first meeting.
“I never said hello to a strange girl in my life. I was too scared,” he recalled. “But I was at a show backstage and she walked by, and for some reason, I just jumped up and said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ There’s something about her and got me, and I was right.”
“He’s made me feel like I can do anything,” Silver stated. Van Dyke stood by this, saying, “And you can.”
“Very supportive of each other,” Silver explained of what makes their marriage work. “I feel like this Vandy Camp is a great representation of all those things in one event.”
“It’s a great … I love that title. Vandy Camp,” Van Dyke gushed.

Van Dyke And Silver Love Their Malibu Home
Later in this same interview, Van Dyke and Silver opened up about what a typical date night looks like for them.
“We just love being home. We love Malibu, and it’s our favorite place, our house especially. So this is like our, you’re at our house,” Silver said. “We’re so grateful. Our house did get hit by the Franklin fire, but in the scheme of things, we got very lucky.”
“And I’m seven months from a hundred,” Van Dyke concluded. This is a reference to Van Dyke’s upcoming 100th birthday, which is set to take place on December 13, 2025.

Van Dyke And Silver’s Previous Comments
This isn’t the first time that Van Dyke has opened up about his love for Silver.
“I married somebody half my age and everybody thought I was crazy, but she is just an absolute angel,” Van Dyke told the HuffPost in February of 2013. “She sings and dances so there’s a lot of that going around the house. She’s a great cook, and the age difference hasn’t been a problem at all. Emotionally I’m about 13. She’s very, very wise for her age so I’m just having the time of my life.”
As for Silver, she’s always made it clear that her 46 year age difference with Van Dyke has never been an issue for her.
“We were friends for so long that when I told people that I know, they were happy about [our relationship, and I was scared,” she told Entertainment Tonight in July of last year. “I mean, the facts, our age difference. But it’s so irrelevant. I think when you see us together, it’s like you don’t think about it.”
God bless Van Dyke and Silver for continuing to show the world that age really is just a number. In the end, all that matters is that they are happy, and they certainly seem to be just that!
