Francisco San Martin, the young actor best known for starring on the soap opera Days Of Our Lives, died last Thursday. He was only 39 years-old.

San Martin’s Death

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office confirmed that San Martin died by suicide.

Born in Mallorca, Spain and raised in Montana, San Martin fell in love with theater as a child. He moved back to Spain as a teenager, and quickly found work as a model.

After returning to the U.S., San Martin got his big break when he was cast as Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives. He appeared on the soap opera from 2010 until 2011. San Martin’s character was originally believed to be a thief. However, it was later revealed that he was really an undercover cop investigating a cold case.

Days Of Our Lives Co-Star Honors San Martin

Camila Banus, who played San Martin’s sister Gabi on Days of Our Lives, took to her Instagram Stories to honor him.

“Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend,” she wrote. “Love you mucho mucho mucho. I wish I had told you more.”

The role of Dario Hernandez was later recast on Days of Our Lives with Jordi Vilasuso in the 2016-2017 season. By then, San Martin had moved on to the Bold and The Beautiful. There, he portrayed estate manager Mateo for seven episodes in 2017.

San Martin also appeared in the 2013 film Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon and in 2017’s Jane the Virgin alongside Gina Rodriguez. His final screen credit was in the 2022 short movie Dot.

Days Of Our Lives Anniversary

This comes as Days of Our Lives is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2025. To mark the occasion, the iconic soap opera is bringing back stars like Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) and Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady) for appearances.

“I was thrilled to be invited to return,” Sweeney told TV Insider back in August. “I love playing Sami and I am always happy for the chance to come back. We always have to figure out scheduling and such, but if at all possible, I’m so glad to make it happen.”

It’s been two years since Sweeney last appeared on Days of our Lives.
