The legendary former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff has sparked fears for his health after he was spotted looking frail as he sat in a wheelchair at the airport. This comes weeks after we reported on the suicide of his ex-wife Pamela Bach, who took her own life on March 5.

Hasselhoff Looks Frail In Wheelchair At Airport

Hasselhoff, 72, was seen being pushed around in a wheelchair by airport attendants in Cancun, Mexico. He was then seen again at LAX in Los Angeles, where he managed to ease himself out of the wheelchair. It was clear that he was leaning heavily on his wife Hayley Roberts, 45, as he left the airport.

Hasselhoff appeared to be trying to stay positive, smiling and giving a thumbs up as he waved to the cameras. However, sources close to him are saying that decades of partying hard have finally caught up to Hasselhoff.

“David is living on borrowed time and has lived hard,” an insider close to Hasslehoff told Daily Mail.

“He had a life that people could only dream of but he also spent decades self-medicating through alcohol and other substances, which he does regret,” the source added.

Hasselhoff’s Past Alcoholism Struggles

The insider went on to claim that Hasselhoff’s health “has been declining for some time now,” because of “decades of alcoholism.”

“He is in his 70s and has had several major operations including having a defibrillator fitted to prevent a heart attack,” the source continued. “He is sober now but knows that every surgery could be the last.”

Indeed, as he limped through LAX, Hasselhoff told fans and photographers that he is due to have knee surgery “next week.”

It was allegedly Hasselhoff’s alcoholism that destroyed his marriage to Bach. They married in 1989 and had two daughters together before divorcing in 2006. A bitter legal battle ensued, with Hasselhoff and Bach litigating spousal support in court until 2017.

In a 2008 interview, Bach admitted to the world that Hasselhoff had a “drinking problem.”

“Everybody thought he was the golden star in swimming trunks on the beach with Pamela Anderson but the drink was taking over his life,” she said at the time. “To me, he was the man who fell over on the bedroom floor.”

“He has a disease, just like cancer,” she added. “And just like cancer, it ate away at our family from the inside.”

Bach’s Suicide

Bach sadly took her own life at her Hollywood Hills home at the age of 61 on March 5. Her cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Sadly, it was one of her and Hasselhoff’s adult daughters that found her body.

Though Hasslehoff noticeably didn’t attend her funeral, he issued a brief statement saying that his family is “deeply saddened” by her death.

“Our family is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Pamela Hasselhoff,” he wrote social media on March 6. “We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult period but kindly request privacy as we grieve and navigate through this challenging time.”
