Darrell Sheets, who was best known for his time appearing on the reality television show Storage Wars, passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning. He was 67 years-old.
Sheets Found Dead
The Lake Havasu City Police Department issued a statement saying that Sheets was found dead from an apparent suicide at around 2am on Wednesday, April 22. This came after officers responded to a call about “a reported deceased individual.”
“Upon arrival, officers located a male subject who suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” the press release stated. “The male was pronounced deceased on scene, and the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit was notified and responded to the scene to assume the investigation.”
“The body was ultimately turned over to the Mohave County Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation,” the statement continued. “The male subject has been identified as Darrell Sheets, a 67-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City. And Darrell’s family has been notified.”
Sheets’ Storage Wars co-star Rene Nezhoda said in an Instagram video on Wednesday that he believes that cyberbullying played a role in this suicide.
“He had this guy, like, really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying [him],” Nezhoda said. “Darrell has been posting a lot about the guy that’s been cyberbullying him and tormenting him. And I really hope [law enforcement] look into that guy and it’s just not a pass.”
Sergeant Kyle Ridgway, public information officer for the Lake Havasu City Police Department, has confirmed that authorities are indeed looking into this.
“We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations and that is a part of the active investigation,” Ridgway told Page Six.
Authorities added that Sheets’ death is still being investigated. Anyone who has information about his passing should contact the LHCPD at 928-855-1171.
Sheets’ History
Sheets rose to fame when he starred on A&E’s Storage Wars. The reality television show follows professional buyers who compete to bid on storage lockers. In California, the contents of storage lockers can be sold at auction if rent isn’t paid for three months.
Sheets was known as “The Gambler” on the show. He scored some major wins at auctions throughout his career. These wins included four Picassos and the world’s most lucrative comic book collection. Sheets’ brother Brandon appeared on Storage Wars as well.
“We are saddened by the passing of a beloved member of our Storage Wars family, Darrell ‘The Gambler’ Sheets,” an A&E spokesperson told People Magazine. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Sheets Suffers Heart Attack
In 2019, Sheets was rushed to the hospital after suffering a heart attack.
“Well here we go I wasn’t going to say anything, but you all have been the greatest friends and fans,” Sheets wrote on social media at the time. “I’ve been very sick for 3 months and two nights ago I had a mild heart attack, found out I have congestive heart failure and a severe issue going on with my lung.”
“All your prayers would be deeply appreciated thank you for being there for me it’s been a great ride #storagewars # Romney has been by my side through all of this she is a good women and I love her,” Sheets added of his then-fiancé Romney Snyder.
Sheets left Storage Wars in 2023. He then opened an antique shop in Arizona called Havasu Show Me Your Junk.
TMZ has obtained a photo of Sheets just hours before his death. The photo shows Sheets smiling as he posed besides two fans at his antique shop at around 5pm on Tuesday. A witness said that Sheets was “upbeat and friendly” during this encounter with the fans.
