Courteney Cox once claimed that she receives “visits” from her late Friends co-star Matthew Perry.
Contact with Perry

The 62-year-old star, who portrayed Monica Geller in the beloved NBC sitcom, claimed in a 2024 interview with CBS Sunday Morning that she still has “a lot” of contact with Perry, who died aged 54 in 2023 following an accidental ketamine overdose.
Courteney said at the time, “I talk to my mom, my dad, Matthew. I feel like there are a lot of people that guide us. I sense Matthew’s around for sure.”
The Scream star also affectionately described Perry, who starred as Chandler Bing in Friends, as “probably one of the funniest human beings in the world” in the same interview.
Cox said, “He’s just so funny. He is genuinely a huge heart. Obviously (he) struggled. I’m so thankful I got to work so closely with him for so many years.”
Joint Statement
Courteney and her Friends co-stars, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, released a joint statement when Perry’s tragic passing was announced.
It read, “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
“In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”
Kudrow’s Praise for Perry

Meanwhile, Kudrow explained how she gained a renewed sense of appreciation for both the show and Matthew’s “genius” after re-watching Friends recently.
The 62-year-old actress, who played Phoebe Buffay in the comedy, told The Times newspaper earlier this year, “Before, I only saw what I did wrong or could have done better. But for the first time, I truly appreciated just how great it was.”
She added, “I felt I did OK, but Jennifer and Courteney? Amazing. David and Matt? They had me laughing so hard.”
“And then Matthew – he was just beyond us all. And whatever any of us do in the future, we will never experience something like that again.”
